Men's Soccer - BACardinal - 09-12-2020

Does anyone know if Logan Panchot signed a professional contract? It sounds like he is not returning for his senior year.

You may have information from much closer to the inside of Stanford Men's Soccer, but at the far reaches from where I try to follow the team, I'm only aware of one recent roster change.  Arda Bulut, a senior this year, has signed a professional contract.

I noticed that upon doing so, Bulut was immediately taken off the 2020 roster, whereas Logan Panchot remains on the roster per Gostanford.com.

Whereas both players have made important contributions to the team (Panchot more -- or less -- depending on your perspective; he was the subject of some criticism last year for a red card that likely cost Stanford a game against OSU, and for poor marking of his man who scored an OT game-winner for Washington), I don't think either has very sanguine pro prospects, notwithstanding the praise of Bulut contained in linked article.  He was somewhat effective as a forward who could receive a pass and hold the ball at the forward line, thereby facilitating the attack, but he did not display the fluidity of many other players (on Stanford and on opposing teams).  Instead, he looked like the historically American player who came to the game of soccer much later than the more skilled, stereotypical foreign-born player.  (Of course, this distinction is gradually eroding.)

Although hard-nosed/scrappy, and with a strong leg, Panchot seems to lack sufficient speed, height, or a distinguishing skill (such to be good in the air like Tomas Hilliard-Arce, or savvy around the goal, like Foster Langsdorf), let alone the talent of other Stanford players who have been successful pros, to have success at the next level.

Man, I sure hope soccer can have a season after the new year.  Their best players (Bouda, Thomas) may not be around much longer.

He posted this video on his Instagram two days ago but since I haven't heard any news I thought I would ask here on CB.

The caption was cut off but it said, "All good things come to and end. Thank you @stanfordmenssoccer"
