"ready for my next opportunity after graduation at the conclusion of the winter quarter." So he's sticking around for the season, though who knows if he's playing.
My guess is he wouldn't be earning a scholarship with us at this point, so he'll try to find a lower-division school where he can do so and get a Masters at least partially paid for.

He's a walk-on who only played in garbage time. Notable because he helped to spearhead the Pac-12 and #WeWantToPlay movements.

Not sure why he wouldn't want to play this fall. He's on campus already for classes and already redshirted. Would he have two years of eligibility if he grad transferred? Can't remember the rules regarding using up eligibility this year.

He might be playing this fall; the grad transfer will be "at the conclusion of the winter quarter." I believe since this year doesn't count against eligibility for anyone, he'll have 2 years to play somewhere (my guess is he's hoping for a scholarship at a lower-level school).
Also notable, I'm pretty sure the 85-scholarship limit will remain. Could get interesting.

so will that be the case for returning seniors over the following three seasons as they would all have an "extra year" as well wouldn't they? Or does the extra year only apply to this year's seniors?

I mean he probably won't have financial aid as a grad student to lean back on so he would probably need a scholarship or a university with low cost tuition to continue.

Just a comment and then I'll get off my high horse.
Sure, the guy didn't get a lot of playing time or ink, so a lot of us weren't familiar with him.
But he committed to Stanford, committed a lot of time and energy to his teammates in practice and probably off the field as well.
And regardless of his position on the depth chart, I'm sure he's a much better athlete than a whole lot of the armchair QBs here.
So....cmon. Let's wish him the best.

No, I don't. Apparently a great guy, but he didn't improve much at all. And....I do for sure wish him the best .
