UCF/Memphis - Phogge - 10-17-2020

Do you like almost 1500 yards of offense? Sure beats 45 carries for 102 yards.

Actually, I prefer 45 carries for 157.

I prefer the "W"

Given the Pac-12 is still the land of Pac-12 After Dark I prefer the 3 hour game rather than the 4.5 hour game.  Therefore give me the win over the loss.  The run over the pass.  And the end of the game at 10PM rather than 11:30PM.

Entertainment triumphs all. At the end of the day a win or a loss of a kids’ game at my age means nothing in the bigger picture. Don’t like blowouts either way and like it best when Cal and Stanford are good. Memphis always entertains. Do you guys like sitting through dull movies?

I much prefer the end of the game to be at around 4pm, with the post game tailgate wrapping up around 5:30pm. . . .

I prefer a balanced O.  For example (incl. sacks as passing attempts), Alabama had 40 rushing attempts and 36 passing attempts yesterday in their win over Georgia.  That is the mark of a winning program.

There is nothing dull about a hard fought low scoring close football game.  One of the best games I ever saw was the Niners beating the Giants 7-3.  Ronnie Lott was possessed. A heat seeking missle.  Every yard was earned. A fantastic game.

I enjoy high scoring games at times as well.  But there are so many now, that I tend to say “yawn” another TD.  I prefer a 2-1 baseball game over 10-9 also.

There is also, to me at least, a difference between a high scoring game in which at least the defenses are “present” and many of these games when you’ll simply see wide-open receivers all over the field 5 yard pass is turned into 60 yard touchdowns and nothing that even resembles resistance defensively. I find much of the Big 12 for example to be like that. Which is why I really don’t like watching that football.

Alabama and Georgia was a fairly high scoring football game. But you can’t say watching that game that they were playing against lousy defenses. It’s also why I enjoy watching the SEC. Plenty of high flying offenses. But generally also a heck of a lot of talent speed and defensive ability.
