More “leaders” acting badly - lex24 - 12-01-2020
1. Denver Mayor implores residents not to travel for Thanksgiving then hops on a plane to go to Mississippi for Thanksgiving. He apologizes for his poor judgment.
2. LA County Supe at hearing where they announce shutdown of outdoor dining talks about how “dangerous” that activity is. Then leaves the meeting. And goes to eat outside at a restaurant. She promises not to do it again.
Hubris. It’s whats for dinner.

We all are hypocrites at times. This goes beyond that.

Three days after the COVID travel advisory, a bipartisan group of California lawmakers flew to the Fairmont Kea Lani ($500/night, I've stayed there, very posh), for a lobbyist-paid conference. Must be nice being a California hypocrite politician. But I repeat myself.

I think that's a good take from Silver.
The hypocrisy is bothersome, but the bigger problem is how it undermines support for restrictions, which is already tenuous. You can imagine someone who is generally willing to listen to officials but also also is feeling pressure from friends to go to a backyard get together, who concludes f- it, if these people don't give a flip, why should I.

Gotta love the post hoc explanation from the Mayor that he had not violated any public health guidelines in doing so...nah, I think Austin would be fully justified in recalling or kicking out their incumbent in the next election given how the local service/entertainment economy has suffered during the pandemic. Terrible, terrible look.
