Time to get ready for the next pandemic.

NEJM article that describes person-to-person transmission of Hantavirus in Argentina.  Hantavirus pulmonary syndrome is a syndrome caused by a variety of mostly zoonotic viruses (typically transmitted from rodents to humans).  You might remember a hantavirus outbreak in Yosemite some years ago.

As luck would have it, one of the patients who succumbed to the virus was a friend of mine from residency.  Anyways, this paper describes human-to-human transmission of hantavirus pulmonary syndrome caused by the Andes virus.  CFR is estimated at 20 - 50%, so let's hope this one doesn't become a pandemic.
