When I was a kid rooting for the Giants there were very few hitters I feared more than Dick Allen. I can still remember him with his helmet on at firstbase. Smoking cigarettes in the dugout and of course the time he wrote trade me in the dirt with his cleats. A unique individual. But my gosh that guy could hit

Allen had the best response to playing on artificial turf "If a horse can't eat it, I don't want to play on it". From what I understand Allen owned a few horses.

Career .292 and .534. A ROY and an MVP. Just killed the Giants. Was part of a great Phillie team that collapsed in the final week in 1964.
Described as one of the best players not in the HOF. Started out as “Richie” and ended up a “Dick.”
