Question re: Personnel Grid - Langdude - 02-17-2021
Hey all:
Wanted to see if there are any creative suggestions on how to present the 2021 Stanford Football Personnel grid. The issue is that, due to the NCAA provision for this past season, none of last year's players used up a year of eligibility. Therefore, since the grid presents players in terms of their remaining eligibility, all players could remain in their current column. (For instance, 2020 freshmen could remain in the "redshirt" column since they could conceivably redshirt this next year and still have four years of eligibility. Likewise, a player who has used two years of eligibility and played last year still has two years of eligibility.) However, this would mean that the first column ("redshirt") would have both the 2020 and the 2021 freshmen in it. One solution I thought of would be to do just that, but somehow demarcate which players are from which class with some sort of appendage to their name, like an asterisk-like symbol.
Another way I could structure it is by class year, though this would then lose the advantage of showing how much eligibility players have remaining. I *could* demarcate player eligibility with something like a number after their name, but that would look unwieldy.
Thoughts?
I wish that the NCAA would have considered more seriously the grief that this would cause me.

I would say add a Redshirt to everyone who hasnt used one and then for those who have already redshirted, just advance their year ahead as you normally would.

Previously, recruits had 5 years to play 4. Anyone who competed in 2020 now has 6 years to play 4 (and playing in 2020 doesn't count as the one). So an academic junior (next year) who redshirted their freshman year, and then played this last year, still has four years of eligibility remaining.
For all practical purposes, you can assume that 2020 never happened from an eligibility perspective, and recruits entering in 2020 are identical to those coming in 2021.
Of course, many players who took a redshirt year and played in 2020 will not stick around Stanford for 6 years.

How many other schools refuse to list the year of eligibility on their official roster? I bet not many.
