I think this trivia question is particularly appropriate for this thread.
What do Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, Niels Bohr and Albert Camus have in common?
For bonus points, why is Dmitri Shostakovich similar to those three, and yet different?

All three played goalkeeper for (the equivalent of) their respective university D1 football teams. Doyle played for Portsmouth, Bohr played for U. of Copenhagen, Camus played for Algeria University.
Shostakovich didn't play, but he was a certified referee.
Makes sense to get rid of college sports. No one important or useful ever played them.
