Starts today at 10 with two matches at Long Beach State

I believe the match times were changed to 1:00 pm and 3:00 pm at LBSU. I hope the Stanford players are in good condition to play back to back matches.
I emailed coach Fuller to check if fans are allowed at matches. My youngest son lives in Orange County. I was thinking of visiting him and watching one of the five matches this weekend. But Coach responded fans are not allowed.
BobK, you should get John Barr to post on this thread. He is a Stanford alum and a beach vb expert. I would enjoy seeing his comments. With the indoor WVB team in disarray beach vb is my only connection now to the sport as a Stanford fan.

Fans are not allowed at ANY Pac-12 sporting events for the rest of this school year.

BobK I have to make a correction. Stanford lost 2-3. Stanford won the #6 match which is an exhibition match and doesn't count.
The #1 and #3 team won. It was a better showing than I expected.

Two matches in a day should not be a big deal. In tournaments, teams may three or four matches in one day.
The second meet is tied 1-1.

Nice come back. LBSU was ranked a little higher (#16) than Stanford (#19) in the preseason poll. So the ranking isn't crazy; they might move up a little. It will be interesting to see how they do against UCLA (#2) tomorrow, a much tougher opponent.
There was also a swap between Stanford's #5 and #6 teams. Jordan McKinney played with Abby Converse in the first meet, and with Emmy Sharp in the second. Without seeing any play, it's hard to say how much of a difference that made, but they did get the win in the second.

Stanford's #1 team won both matches in straight sets. That's encouraging.
Stanford's #2 team is perplexing. They got killed the first match. They destroyed the opponent in the second match.
This could be Stanford's best beach team.

So, I take it that this is a little like tennis. We have teams/pairs and we play them for the best 3 out of 5. That's match. We played two matches today, like a double header in baseball. They won the first match 3-2, and we won the second match 4-1. So each team now has a record of 1-1.

Right, that is for the contests (2 on 2). When I said 3 out of 5 I meant the "match" of the five pairs of players from each team. The first match we lost in 3 of our (2 on 2) contests. In the second match, we won in 4 of our (2 on 2) contests. This being our first competition, we are now 1-1. I'm probably using the wrong nomenclature for the 2 on 2 contests.

Our team is in action against UCLA. I just started a new thread for that match. We play them in a double header today. The next match starts at 1:30.

Stanford is currently playing #2 UCLA on livestream. Stanford #4 team won the first set. Stanford #2 team lost a very close set 22-24. If Stanford hadn't made about six serving errors they would have won the set.
Stanford #2 team is Xolani Hodel (don't ask me to pronounce the first name) and Kate Reilly. Both are freshmen and very good. Hodel is a beast at the net. With a set close to the net and a poorly positioned blocker she can bounce the ball. First Stanford beach player I've seen with that kind of power.
IMO Hodel has the most upside of any player on the Stanford team. The Cardinal probably won't win this one but they are actually way better than I anticipated.

Very close second game although we trail
