Thanks! Nice to see several East Bay girls on the National Team, as well as some Stanford girls.

That list currently shows 19 players.
One of the three goalkeepers and five of the 16 field players will not be going to the Olympics for the US, as the Olympics has a 13 player roster.

Also, an "if" should be attached to the Olympics.  It sounds like the Tokyo organizing committee is doing its best to decide at the last possible minute, but there is a not-insignificant chance that the Olympics will be cancelled.

Games at ASU today abd tomorrow noon both games. Live stats and live stream

RE: Women’s Water Polo starts Saturday - M T - 03-06-2021

If you tuned in for the last half of the last quarter and had the sound off, you might have thought Stanford did ok.  However, more likely, Stanford fans tuned out for that period.  I contemplated giving up.

I can't recall Stanford WWP ever being down 5 goals.  Mid third quarter, Stanford was down 9-4.  Ugly.  Our All American goalie did not play well in my opinion.  A number of lob shots got in.    The goal that really hurt was a late in the shot clock 10th goal in the 4th quarter.  I think our goalie assumed ASU (with a big lead) was just going to dump the ball off.  I didn't see her react to the shot at all.

Stanford's first 2 shots were right at the goalie's body.  Several seemed to slip off the shooter's hand.

Stanford put the goalie in the field for the last 20 seconds, giving us a 7 on 6 advantage.  We had a shot to tie it but, like a number of shots earlier, the ball seemed to slip off the hand of the shooter and went high over the goal.

We lost 10-9 against ASU, giving ASU a record now of 1-26 against Stanford.

Even if Stanford demolishes ASU tomorrow, I don't see Stanford retaining their #2 ranking.  They did not look like the #2 team for 3.5 quarters today.

I hope that Stanford can use this loss to motivate themselves.

Sadly none of are national team members are playing as we suspected

Believe that's a rule change that's fairly new. Previously, the goalie wasn't allowed to go past half court (or pool).

Sunday's game resulted in a 12-6 win by Stanford.  A much better game all around by Stanford.  Better goal tending, better defense.   Stanford missed two penalty shots.

RE: WWP: STAN vs SJS (1PM TODAY) - M T - 03-13-2021

Stanford wins 16-7.

I only got to see the 4th quarter.  Stanford was up 11-5 but put in a different goalie.  She let a couple of consecutive cross-cage shots get by her, reducing the lead to 11-7 with 4+ minutes to go (a surmountable difference).  I believe there was another goalie change (and then another).  Stanford offense went to work on an apparently tiring SJSU team.  There were several close-in shots, whether from 2 on 1 fast breaks or just fast transitions.

I don't think I've seen this before:  Stanford had a 6 on 5, and a shot went out of bounds off the goalie for a Stanford throw-in from the 2 meter line.  Apparently the player that brought it in put the ball in play (a "pass" to herself) and then took a shot from the 2-meter line at the side of the pool.  It snuck in behind the goalie.  Strong shot.

The SJSU goalie looked pretty good, saving several close shots in the 4th.  I think she had 11 saves.

Stanford is now 2-1, and looking much better than their first game against ASU.

Another game at Stanford Sunday at noon (#14 SDSU).   No spectators.  (Too bad, but appropriate)

RE: WWP: STAN vs SJS (1PM TODAY) - M T - 03-14-2021

#3 Stanford beats #14 SDSU 16-10.

Stanford jumped out to a 5-0 lead after just 4.5 minutes (35 second shot clock, so that's a pretty good clip).
The lead stayed at about 4-6 goals for the rest of the game.

There were some defensive mistakes that let SDSU get some goals.  They played well and do deserve a ranking.
Stanford missed a number of shots I thought they should get.

Stanford drew the major files:  Only 2 of 4 on penalty shots, and 4 of 8 on power plays.
SDSU drew only 3 exclusions but were 3 of 3 on their power plays.
