Besides Michelle Wie, who was successful before attending Stanford, who has been our most successful professional women's golfer? Any in the last 10 years? 20 years?
Expanding to tennis, do we currently have a professional player, man or woman, in the top 50?

The players who end up that successful don't tend to come from the college ranks, right? They just turn pro immediately?

That's correct. The only top player in women's tennis to have come from college that I'm aware of is Jen Brady.
The highest-ranked recent Stanford alum in tennis was Nicole Gibbs who got to 68 in 2016 - as far as I know. Kristie Ahn who is still playing pro was up to 93rd in 2020.
Golf is a little different, especially on the men's tour where virtually everyone played college golf. The women's tour is a bit more mixed due to a heavier mix of foreign players especially from Asia. None of our alumni have won an LPGA event since Hilary (Homeyer) Lunke won the US Women's Open in 2003. There are currently four alumni on tour - Valenzuela, Andrea Lee, Lauren Kim, and Mariah Stackhouse.

On the men's tennis side, Steve Johnson has been the most successful former college (U$C) player in recent years, reaching a highest ranking of 21 on the pro tour.
AFAIK, the only former Stanford women's player still playing pro tennis is Kristie Ahn, whose highest ranking was 93. Last week she lost her qualifying match at Monterrey

Wie is an alum but I don't count her accomplishments among our alumni accomplishments since they all happened before she enrolled. I hope she comes back to play but clearly her best days are well behind her.

Maverick McNealy ends up tied for fourth in this weekend's golf tourney, RBC Heritage. Maybe he'll become a top-50 golfer.
