MSoc - STAN vs Wash - PVTree - 03-20-2021

Was watching the game in between basketball action. Eskimo Dogs scored a late goal before my connection failed. I think we lost 1-0.

well we have the women to look forward to this evening, on Pac-12 BA.

Sucky Stanford Soccer Saturday. The women also lost 1-0, at home, vs. the Weenies.

With the obvious exception of the wrestling, it was a sucky Saturday for Stanford sports.  We can hope for a superlative Sunday, though.
Field Hockey has already won;  WWP is starting as I type, on Stanford Live Stream (10AM);  WVB (P-12) and SB (Live stream) and Baseball (live stream) are at noon; WBB at 7PM (ESPN).

Softball winning two is not sucky

Cal stopped a Stanford penalty kick in the 88th minute. Also Cal had one shot on goal. It went in. Very frustrating. Only consolation is that it was not an official P12 match. The conference match will be in Berkeley the last game of the season.

RE: MSoc - STAN vs Wash - oldalum - 03-21-2021

The W Soccer match vs. Cal was one of those unfortunate ones where we clearly dominated play (21 shots to their 4, 13 corners to their 2) but couldn't score. Their GK is excellent; so is ours but their one shot on goal was a really good shot that hit the post and rebounded across and in. Madison Haley's nice pass into the box on a diagonal run by Kuhlmann got us the PK, but the Cal GK made a good save on a decent but not great PK by us. (I don't understand our kicker's strategy: she lined up directly behind the ball, approached in a straight line, and kicked with her right foot to the left corner which is the only place she can kick it with that orientation. Maybe she can also kick with her left foot into the right corner with that runup?--but once it becomes obvious which foot is doing the kicking the GK can get a jump on the ball. Or maybe she can kick it with the outside of her right foot into the right corner of the goal?) At least we'll get a chance for revenge later.

I only got to watch a little bit but Stanford was dominant in that time.  Then I heard UCLA was playing a man short because of a red card.

RE: MSoc - STAN vs Wash - PVTree - 03-28-2021

The red card came when Stanford was already ahead 2-0 and in complete control of the game.
