SI: The Man Who Isn't There -- JaMarcus Russell -

In-depth interview about JMR's life now and how he fell from grace. It's a good read and certainly changed my view of him as a player even if I did read the article with a bit of skepticism.
Quote:During his time in Oakland, Russell's work ethic was considerably less than exemplary. Most damning were reports that he fell asleep during team meetings. "In the NFL, my first year, I had to be there at 6:30 before practice and be on the treadmill for an hour," he says. "Then meetings come, I sit down, eat my fruit. We watch film, and maybe I got tired. Coach Flip [quarterback coach John DeFilippo] pulled me aside and said, 'What are you doing for night life?' I said, 'Coach, I'm just chilling.' He said, 'I need to get you checked out.' I did the sleep test, and they said I had apnea."

And a point/counterpoint refutation or explanation from Grantland, which seems like the Slate.com of sports.
Quote:Oh, sorry, did you think we were going to go another day without discussing the JaMarcus Russell piece in Sports Illustrated? No, remember, this is the blog that brought you the Bad Quarterback League AND Reintroducing the Bad Quarterback League: This Time With More JaMarcus Russell.
It's not that scathing, but I'd never heard of the blank DVD legend, and I certainly could see it happening.

I'd say the blank DVD story is pretty scathing.

I don't know if it's true. But if it is, then yes, a multi-million dollar QB not even pretending due diligence over the fortunes of a millions-of-dollars NFL franchise should be properly excoriated.
