Drew Taylor '20 wins for Cambridge in the 166th Boat Race (men's) - fullmetal - 04-05-2021

Drew Taylor '20 sat stroke seat in the victorious Cambridge University eight that won the 166th Boat Race (men's) over Oxford University on Sunday.  

Due to a crack in London's Hammersmith Bridge, the race was unable to be held on the normal Tideway course (on the Thames), so this year's race was shortened to about 5km on the River Great Ouse at Ely, which is a narrower, straight course where Cambridge practice.  Because of covid restrictions, no public attendance was allowed either.  Neither team was able to participate in the usual racing season by which each of Oxford and Cambridge race other teams or at other regattas to get a feel for lineup performance or build chemistry.  And this year, for the first time, the Boat Races were sponsored by the Winklevoss twins' cryptocurrency company.

There's a lot to unpack about how the race went down if anyone is interested, so please post questions if you'd like.  And finally, please remember that Stanford men's rowing is still sending out alumni to do great and wonderful things like win Boat Races while facing the existential threat of being cut from varsity sponsorship by the athletic department.  Send notes to Muir and the trustees asking them to not cut 11 sports from the most diverse and accomplished athletic department in the nation.
