Season tickets - Phogge - 04-06-2021

Got my renewal and it includes, "Only mobile ticketing." Wasn't planning to purchase but there are some folks who don't have, won't have and detest smart phones. So they lose business and they probably don't give a damn.

LMFAO!

I don't understand why they don't continue to offer "Print your Own"; can someone please explain?

my guess is they think that the digital tickets will get people in and out of the stadium faster than dealing with both digital and paper tickets, call me skeptical....

Sorry folks, but mobile ticketing is going to become the standard, if it's not already. Professional sports have been heading this direction for several years, and more colleges are doing the same. So you may hate it, but it's not a Stanford thing.

Just did a quick Google search and found the following colleges/universities doing mobile only ticketing for at least some, if not all, sports:
USC
UCLA
Washington
Oregon

The only other one I checked was Cal, which apparently still has some print ticketing options.

RE: Season tickets - Phogge - 04-06-2021

Sorry Papa and Stanford but no thanks.

Hijack alert—

The digital/mobile world is upon us whether we like it or not. The pandemic hastened the demise of the paper/plastic menu, and most restaurants with outdoor seating down here in San Diego have gone to QR code signs allowing you to upload the menu to your phone.

So that weird little QR scanner app you downloaded back in 2010 is now actually useful, LOL.

RE: Season tickets - Phogge - 04-06-2021

If anybody else objects come out to SF State baseball at Maloney Field. No need for mobile tickets, no need for any tickets. Just a free day in the sun by Lake Merced. Play Harding/Fleming in the morning. Of course due to the conference universities there are no sports until Fall, if then.

RE: Season tickets - pefloresjr - 04-06-2021

In the before times (2019), my Giants mobile tickets were sent to my phone but I was still able to print out the screen on my printer and it worked on the scanners.  They actually often scanned better than the one on my phone.  I sometimes had trouble with the phone app pulling up the right tickets (probably user error) so I always tried to bring both the print out and my phone.  Same experience at a Niners game.  I think the same old-school print out of the code would work on Stanford mobile tickets.  Also, if someone doesn't have a cell phone or has visual issues with using one and wants to go to a game, you should call the ticket office and tell them you need an accommodation of picking up a written ticket or going to the will call desk to have someone escort you in.  No need for grumpy declarations to never attend because the the ticketing method, in my opinion.

Cheers,
Pete F.

Also apparently you're not allowed to bring signs anymore.  No word on if cheering is also prohibited too.

So no national anthem?

Damn.  It's like back when automobiles started taking over and they eventually banned horses on streets inside the city limits.  Many a folk didn't cotton to that and just stayed in the country. :•]

RE: Season tickets - terry - 04-06-2021

Stanford is telling us that the tickets will show up in my Stanford ticket account, which I will need to link to a Stanford ticketing app on my phone. Then, Stanford is telling me to store the tickets in an Apple or Google Pay Wallet.

I've used electronic tickets on my phone for movies, theater, etc. But nobody else required me to use Apple Wallet, nor did they require me to download a separate app, nor did they require me to have a linked user account.

Stanford is making its football tickets much harder to use than, for example, AMC Cinema simply texting me a QR code.

I will figure it out, I guess. But what about our less tech-literate fans? This is going to be a problem for some of them.

Also, a problem arises when I want to give away my extra tickets, which I frequently do. As I understand it, I can give away tickets by text or email, but the recipient needs to have a Stanford ticket account, and also needs to have the Stanford ticket app on his or her phone.

That's going to make it a lot harder to give away tickets at the last minute, and it's going to make it a lot harder to give tickets to people who aren't already Stanford fans. Are people who aren't yet Stanford fans going to be willing to open a Stanford ticket account and download an app, just so they can attend a game that they might not feel that strongly about?

For the NC match the NCAA had a video of the National Anthem being sung while the players were in the locker rooms.  I didn't see the point of that.

BTW, I got your joke about the misspelling.

That's going to make it a lot harder to give away tickets at the last minute, I don't buy the additional security benefit as I doubt there is a big counterfeit ticket problem for Stanford football, and it's going to make it a lot harder to give tickets to people who aren't already Stanford fans. this is a stupid policy.  The only reason I can think of to require this is to expand their customer list.  In addition to the giving tix to friends they are also basically requiring everyone in a ticket order to have an account and the app given people on the same ticket order don't always enter the stadium at the same time, and even if they do enter at the same time some may come out at halftime while others remain in the stadium.  This also creates the overhead for the ticket buyer of having to transfer the tix everyone in their order, glad I only have two tix in mine.

ADD:  response from the ticket office

This is correct information, and consistent with other platforms like TicketMaster and StubHub who utilizing mobile ticketing transfers. Normally, if there are barcodes it is easy to screenshot and share the images. Since we use a “digital signature” similar to Apple Pay, this makes that process much more secure, even if the added step of account creation is required. Our users are able to opt-out of unwanted communication as well if that is a concern.

ADD: second response from the ticket office

Neither you nor your partner will be required to download and use the Stanford Athletics mobile app to attend games. It is recommended, but not required. Mobile tickets can be accessed via email or their online account using a web browser. Creating an account to accept a ticket transfer is as simple as filling out the form below [not below here]. After “Create Account” is selected, the recipient can open the ticket on their phone and scan-in, or save it to their Apple or G Pay Wallet

Give me paper tickets or give me death!    (With apologies to Patrick Henry)

RE: Season tickets - jfredmuggs - 04-06-2021

I do not own a smart phone. I do not want a smart phone. I was hoping to die before I ever needed a smart phone. I complained bitterly to the ticket department today because buying season tickets as well as buying a smart phone is a pretty expensive proposition. They called me within minutes of my e-mail and told me that I could use will-call if I didn’t have a smart phone and that they didn’t tell people that they could do that because they thought too many people would choose that option. Not sure what I will do. Probably buy a smart phone. I hate this. In any event, my wife and I plan to ride horses to the games and tie them up to bicycle racks. I don’t think Stanford charges for that. Probably they would if they thought about it.

Howdy, Muggs.  Take a covered wagon....  :)

in an additional email exchange with the ticket office they offered up

Quote:We can mail you physical tickets for a $25 charge. (I'm assuming for the season not per game but I would not bet on that....)

RE: Season tickets - Phogge - 04-06-2021

Well Marty I would take my horse but as a retired thoroughbred he can only go a mile and a half tops. He was better in a starter allowance at a mile and a sixteenth or a mile and an eighth so I think that the 158 mile round trip might be a tad too much.

I’m with Ole Muggs, a Thunderdome refugee, and will just sit back and watch on TV. And if the games elude the DISH Network I will not GAS and watch Law and Order reruns because they are on somewhere 24/7.

I had fun watching the Phillies today. Coolest unis in baseball.

News flash... just checked my email and got a response from Stanford tickets. They thanked me for bringing it up and said I could call the ticket office and they will print tickets.

Yes Marty don’t be shocked, I can email.

Happy to hear that your request received a satisfactory reply, Phogge. All's well that ends well, right?
