The first game wasn't just a walk off hit; it was a "walk off hit" after the 1st base umpire called foul. Apparently there was a significant discussion,
where the umpires left the field at one point with the coaches and players still on the field.
But the biggest win of the season by far for softball. Oregon is #8 in RPI, and a road win against top 10 team will provide a big boost
(we came into the week at #53, so bubble territory due to our limited options in non-conference play).

Stanford beats Oregon again after losing yesterday. Today 5-0 with two HRs and Vawter with a 3 hit shutout in the 5-0 win
Stanford is now 25-13 and 5-7 in league play.

and finally we will receive Ranking Votes? Hope it is not anti-Pac 12 bias and Oregon just falls precipitously!

Up to #45 in RPI this week (prior to tonight's win) after
a really good performance against Oregon to get a split
on the road. Important to get some wins against a
fellow bubble team in Oregon State, and tonight
was a good start.

Next 11 games are really big. Three left against OSU then 8 against two top ten teams. Anyone want to hazard a guess at what kind of record will be needed over the next 11 games to move on the post seasons?

here's my guess given the infinite lack of wisdom of the ranking: we need to win 3 vs OSU then 4 of the 8 against the top ten teams for a 7-4 record for them to wake up and notice. ridiculous.

We should get credit in terms of RPI just playing the contests against UCLA and UW (which are both top 10). Winning at least 1 out of 8 against them would be great. Winning this series against a fellow bubble team (particularly since it is at home) is critical. Also need that game against Cal for season series win.
The bubble teams from non Power conferences playing weaker competition should continue to move back toward us, which has also helped our rise, along with getting two out of four against top 15 Ducks.
I think we will make it, but constraints of COVID is making things tougher due to having to play weaker regional competition in non-conference (Cal also having another tough year all around hurts).

3-3, top of the 12th. We've had only 3 hits and no runs since the first inning.

Stanford walks it off in the 13th, on a clutch RBI by Taylor Gindlesperger! Vital victory for
Card after Stanford nearly blows the game failing to catch final out in seventh in foul ground,
leading to the game tying HR by Oregon State.
Unfortunately, Alana had to basically throw a game in relief, so for Game #2 today, it is
the shrug emoji.
Though, we will take it, as the Pac-12 series is clinched (overall series clinched with a win
in either of two final games).

Another Stanford win behind Vawter 2-0.

With the final four against UW also on TV (Pac-12 Networks).
Big series win that hopefully, with other results around the country this weekend,
has the Cardinal in position for an NCAA tourney berth.
Important to complete the season series win at home against Cal.

But importantly, we won the season series (all home games) against Cal. So the committee will treat it
as a series win, even if they were technically "non-league" games.
We moved up to #42 in RPI prior to today's game after OSU series.
Some of this depends on how our competition on the bubble plays, but I think we are in a good position.
Among our bubble competition, we have by far the most wins against RPI Top 100 competition, and best record
against Top 25 competition.
The only reason we are even this close to the bubble, as opposed to closer to Top 25 where our Massey rating is,
is because we have some sub 200 RPI losses that we probably wouldn't have if we weren't as limited in who we played
early in the season.
