Does any other sport finish a season at the college level, move straight into the draft, and then have those drafted college players go right into pro play like women's basketball? Seems terrible for the kids. High risk of injury. What if they want to graduate college (assuming non-Covid-19 fifth and sixth year situations)?

Don't baseball players go straight from college to the minors?

The players plan ahead to ensure they can graduate in the winter so that they play in the spring.  Football players who enter the draft generally do the same.  Although they don't have to report immediately, most will graduate before spring quarter to be able to focus on the draft spring quarter.

I just think it is rough for these young women to play a full season of basketball and then go right into another season without a rest. Doesn't seem right. Baseball I can see. If they tried to make football players do the same that'd be obscene.

Final roster cut deadline is today, 2 p.m. Pacific Time, although some teams may have a 12 person roster that includes players who are essentially fill-ins pending return of players who are finishing seasons from international play.

How's Aari McDonald doing? Is be interesting in seeing how she does, with her quickness, against the pros.

Took a look at ESPiN's WNBA predictions and 4 out of 7 experts predict D. Carrington to be Rookie of the year. That's a lot of respect.

RE: Kiana early results - chimera - 05-13-2021

I've long thought Carrington might be well suited for the pros.  The WNBA is a very physical league.  She excels at that sort of game, both mentally and physically.  She is strong and aggressive in a way that will help her in the pros.  That said, she needs to be efficient when she shoots.  Can't have low percentage shooting.  They won't need her to be a volume scorer.

Ki made the opening day roster. The Storm show 13 players, with two inactive due to international play. Teams can only carry 12 active players, so she's not certain to stick yet.

Kiana Williams' mother is the same age as Sue Bird (they share a birthday).

RE: Kiana's WNBA roster spot safe? - bbm233 - 05-28-2021

The Storm has been juggling players to keep at the league allowable 12 and Kiana has been the beneficiary. She is probably the last player on the bench (she has only played 8 minutes all year). First, they juggled the return of their international players and Katie Lou Samuelson's temporary departure (to qualify for the 3 on 3 tournament at the Olympics - I didn't even know this was an event). When she returns that puts the Storm at 13 and there probably isn't room for Kiana. As luck would have it, Kiki Herbert Harrigan has announced she is pregnant and will be on leave for the rest of the season. Fingers crossed that provides roster certainty to Kiana for her first WNBA season.

One of my favorite players ever. Love to see her nail that three. I hope she has a full up WNBA career. I KNOW she will,be successful at whatever he ultimate vocation is.

I hope she made the free throw too!

RE: Kiana early results - BobK - 06-13-2021

Well her 4 points says yes

RE: Kiana early results - PVTree - 06-17-2021

Speaking of WBB alums, Karlie Samuelson is back with the Sparks. It may be temporary as the Sparks have a ton of injuries, including both Os, but it's always nice to see Karlie on a WNBA roster.
