Softball NCAA tournament - Spiny_Norman - 05-21-2021
Stanford softball starts today in the Fayetteville regional vs. South Dakota State. Scoreless in the 2nd.

Trailing now 2-0. SDSU got away with what looked like a runner out of the base path. Very next batter hits 2 run HR.

7-1 loss today to a strong South Dakota State team. SDSU had a good gameplan
for wearing down Alana, and forcing her into mistakes. And unfortunately,
not enough offense to overcome the SDSU longballs.
We face Manhattan in elimination game tomorrow.

Too bad we didn't go with upperclass pitcher for first game and first year for second game. Might have been rolling the dice a bit much.

Alana is definitively the #1 for our team. So we definitely went with our best. Maddy was very good against
UW, but she and most of our #2 options behind Alana have been streaky.
But we will probably see Maddy tomorrow against Manhattan, so that is the good news.

Stanford out to an early 3-0 lead on Manhattan. Cardinal taking advantage
of a couple of Jasper errors, and a great outing so far by Maddy Dwyer.

Stanford wins a 10 inning classic against South Dakota State 2-1,
on an Eleni Spirakis single back up the middle.
Stanford advances to its first regional final since 2013. Congrats
to Coach Allister and the team, and let's go win two tomorrow.

Let’s play 2 and win them Both 2-1 in 10 innings . Spirakis with a top of tenth inning RBI double
Dakota gets a two out double in the bottom of the 10th but Vawter stands her. Vawter 10 innings gave up only 5 hits
Stanford plays Arkansas tomorrow and must win two to advance

Stanford loaded the bases with 2 out but not to be. Lost 7-3 to # 6 Arkansas.
Sad ending to a fine season. Extra season will be even better

This team battled so hard today, and really all season. All you can ask for
with bases loaded, tying run at the plate, and your best power hitter
at the plate. Sometimes you get the hit, sometimes you don't. Really
proud of this team, and they have absolutely nothing to be disappointed in.

I know Eleni's dad from working with him for about 6 years on the Santa Clara County rec inter-league council. Great guy, dedicated to all the girls getting the most out of softball that they can. Glad Eleni got the chance to play a 5th season and be the hero for a game.

Ran into Eleni's dad this weekend at a softball tournament. He's coaching an 18u team. Interesting hearing stories about Eleni's experience on the team. As I told him, I was glad to see Eleni get a game winning hit in the second to last game, and be on base with two outs, bases loaded, down by 4 runs. I told him I was praying for Eleni to do anything her last at bat but make an out.
