2 Friday night games, neither after a bye.

Sept. 4 is well before classes start, and the game will be 11 am local time.  There's no reason not to get acclimated in time.

Neither ASU nor Utah have a bye either before their Friday night game against us either.  Obviously, it is tougher to go on the road for a Friday game, but at least we will have home games the week before.

At least: no home games before students start school.  Our schedule is backloaded with home games.  We have our bye week midway through, ahead of an important game against a division rival.

That being said, I still look at that schedule and have a very hard time finding 6 wins.

That "9AM" looked like a "4AM" at first glance and I was like, what the hell?

Nothing too surprising.  The USC game is going to be late to be the marquee matchup for that timeslot on that week.  I prefer the home Friday game, if there has to be one, to be at 7:30pm rather than 6pm because getting to Palo Alto by 6pm after work is a complete joke.
Also, having a game on ESPNU sucks, as I don't get that.

I had the same reaction as SamuelMcF regarding the K-State game. As he pointed out, Stanford's 2015 team opened its season with a road game at 11 a.m. against Northwestern on a hot, muggy, energy-sapping day. Stanford looked horrible. That was an excellent Stanford team, which later won the Rose Bowl and finished with a #3 ranking. But that team sure didn't perform well with the 11 a.m. kickoff in the heat and humidity.

One would hope that we have learned some lessons from that.  I may be misremembering, but I seem to recall that Shaw decided to stay in California until pretty late in the week.  Hopefully, we won't repeat that mistake.  I think if we have a poor showing this year, the reason will be that the team is just not very good.

The schedule looks about right.

The first game will be in Texas, so it will be hot.   The stadium has a roof, so I do wonder if the roof might be closed for the game.     It probably will be best for TV for the roof to be closed, so hopefully that will happen.  

Given those first three road games are on the schedule, the start times might just be best for the team and Stanford fans. 
A game in Dallas with shade for fans and/or a closed roof rather than Kansas.  Yes
A game in LA in the evening rather than in the middle of the day.   Yes
A game in Tennessee at night rather than a noon kickoff during a really hazy, hot day.  Works for me too.

The Friday games are a part of the conference contract, and a nearly certain to be a feature in future contracts.   7:30 is far too late for East Coast types, but I can only imagine some in the Pac-12 have realized kick-offs at 6PM in very empty stadiums has not done much to impress East Coast types.   In any event, getting the Tempe game to be held at night is rather important, so I am sure Friday 7:30PM will be much better for the team than Saturday at 1PM.   Also, the travel logistics to get out of Tempe are not bad. 

The most important thing for Stanford IMHO is to get as many home games as possible after classes start.

Given the contractual limitations and the slate of opponents the schedule is viable.   It is rather easy to imagine five start times that would have been less favorable.   

For example, USC at Noon, Vanderbilt at 11AM (local)/9AM(Pacific), & Utah at 6PM.

I long ago decided I would not bet on college sports, but that feels like an easy bet to me.
As long as COVID allows the team to play a full schedule 5 or more wins seems like a good bet IMHO.

Even if the season is loaded with losses for Stanford, it will be great to get back into Stanford Stadium to support the team.

Yup. In 2016, we had the JJ Arcega Whiteside breakout game at UCLA late Saturday night and got our asses handed to us at UW on Friday night.

It doesn't matter much what they do to try to "reset" their clock, the team will not be as fresh as KSU.

Hey Sam what’s real money these days? Do you mean money that is green and you can carry or money that has a high value as in “Joe is a millionaire but Bob is making real money”? Just would like to know what you kids think from somebody who watched his dad lose his shirt and then work hard to get it back Post WW2.

A year or two ago I looked up Stanford's record in games that started before noon pacific over the past decade or more. It was atrocious.

We did beat Davis in an 11:00 am start game in 2018, but played rather terribly.

Lots of "ifs" that have to fall our way to end up with what I consider a successful season of 8 wins. #1 is health because of lack of depth, both in terms of talent and experience, at a lot of positions. #1A is the defense. If we stay healthy and the defense is decent, we can get to eight, although I think more likely we will end up around 6 wins. If we have injuries like 2019, we might win 1 or 2.

K-State, the team I cheered for growing up, is looking like a middle- or lower-end-of-the-pack team in the Big 12. They are not invincible, but they will bring a lot of fans to AT&T Stadium so it will be very much a road game. Vanderbilt may be the worst team in the SEC East. Stanford can beat Cal, Oregon State and WSU. That's five wins in my perfect world.

This team showed tons of resilience in 2020. I expect the same in 2021.
