So, is it safe to say people were wrong in bashing Haase about all these "problems within the program" and people transferring when only Davis left. In any normal year he would have graduated and moved on regardless so I wouldn't really count that towards being the coaches fault when Davis probably realized his playing time was going to be limited next year with the addition of Silva and the progression of O'connell.

Also, good for Wills. I think he has real potential to make a roster with his athleticism and his outstanding defense. I'm looking forward to seeing how he does in the pros. He might not hear his name called but he'll for sure get a G-League invite to showcase his skillset and see if he can sign a couple 10-day contracts and find a landing spot on an NBA roster.

I don't think it is safe at all. There were obvious problems. I don't know if the problems are Haase's or the players or both. Normally both guys would still be with Stanford next year. Wills has no chance to make a roster next year.

I enjoyed watching Bryce play. He often was the most athletic player on the court, seemingly able to drive at will on most defenders. He had a rough time putting it in the bucket, but he was entertaining. He may be top-10 in terms of athleticism in the history of Stanford basketball.

He had a terrific game against Colorado at Maples in his sophomore year. I hoped it would work out after this unusual season, and that he'd be back for his senior year. 

Nothing left to do, but wish him the best as he tries to become a professional basketball player. Like many, I don't think he has the shooting prowess to make the NBA, but a foreign league will help him make good money playing the sport he loves.

with his level of athletic talent, shouldn't his shooting ability be improvable with work and coaching? Seems anomalous to me.

I haven't seen him on any of the mock drafts.  You are right that he might see a G-league invite or a chance to play outside of the US.  But does this represent a vindication for Haase?  Seems like the net effect was the same; Wills was looking to get out of Dodge.

And it's actually the smallest number of early entrants since 2016. Many will choose to return to college after they don't get combine invites etc.

Can't believe how stupid some of these guys are. To see 353 young men declare themselves eligible, when there are only 60 picks, is just sad.

Most have not hired agents and can return/transfer, and over half on the list are seniors. I don't think that's stupid.

How many aren't Seniors?

On a somewhat related note, I was at Sonoma State the last year it had a football program and I knew some of the players.  It was shocking to me how many of the players thought they had an NFL future. The distance between the allure of pro glory and objective reality, is vast for far too many college athletes.

Extreme confidence in one's abilities is necessary but not sufficient to make it to the professional leagues.  Those who lack it have been weeded out long ago.

160 seniors, 61 juniors, 73 frosh/sophs.

That for sure was/is true. If he is indeed graduating this quarter there is no reason for him to stick around if sharing playing time is not an acceptable situation. That in and of itself says nothing about Haase one way or the other. He probably didn't see any college situation available that he liked, so grad transfer wasn't at all attractive. That leaves what he did as the only option.

To be clear, I'm not criticizing Wills for draft declaration even if he hired an agent, given he is graduating. I just don't think he will be drafted.

It's most of those other 134 guys who hire agents I find lacking sound judgment about declaring for the draft. It is sound policy that players can throw their hat in the ring and return to school if they don't hire agents.

Iirc, Wills has been all academic Pac 12 member. He's terrific at everything but perimeter shooting. Pretty big thing. Even his ft's have deteriorated. Always wished that he would shoot hundreds of threes per day over the summer. Actually one of my favorite players of the Haase era.

When four guys leave before their eligibility is up, the problem is more than just the players. Yes, that includes da Silva.
