LW Rowing Coach departs - Griffins78 - 06-10-2021

I don't know if this was already posted. I don't recall seeing it.

Seems like it is another casualty of the aborted effort to cancel the 11 sports, including LW Rowing. Another big loss.

Bertko Steps Down as Lightweight Rowing Head Coach

I heard that she had personal/life reasons for wanting to move.  Muir hired her (and she was a great hire)...and now he'll have to replace her after almost cancelling her sport.

Does that make 5 of the 11 sports losing their coaches (Field Hockey, Wresting, LW Rowing, Coed Sailing and Women's sailing)? Any more coming? It shouldn't be a surprise that the coaches of the cut sports committed to other opportunities given their sports were cut at least temporarily.

No, it shouldn't be a surprise. You know that they wanted to get rid of you and your sport. saying "sorry, we didn't mean it" rings hollow and is too late for many. Doing the "right thing" eventually is much better than continuing in error, but there is unavoidable collateral damage associated with the initial screwup. It won't end this year either. Some effects will linger.

Well yes, but also you have to imagine that the coaches were quietly casting their nets for future opportunities after the 2020-2021 academic year in case the student+alumni challenges didn't pan out, and they probably found some really good jobs that they liked.  Maybe some decided to execute on those plans regardless.
