Stanford *shouldn't* have to worry about reckless behavior from KSU players leading to Stanford Covid outbreak because there will be a big incentive to stay healthy. I'm assuming players are to be tested before they travel and play games, but do not know the protocols.

The vaccination news isn't nearly so good in Riley County, where K-State is located.

Isn't Stanford requiring vaccination to be on campus now?
Fall quarter students have until July 23 to confirm their vaccine status.
If they don’t prove they have been vaccinated, they have to be tested at least weekly.
That is for all undergrads. The football team could have more stringent requirements.

I like Santa Clara's approach
- Until vaccine is fully approved (not EUA), students/faculty/staff have a choice about whether to get vaccinated or not
- Those who do not provide proof of vaccination must wear masks at all times when outside their residence and must get tested twice a week
- Those who provide proof of vaccination do not have to wear masks nor do they need to be tested
- Once a vaccine is fully FDA approved, vaccination will be mandatory
Not sure what their policy is for others who come onto campus

It should be noted that the "standard" FDA approval cycle is a year, and that the six month review granted Pfizer is an expedited one, so probably it is the best they are going to get.

My first thought is to be disappointed that 15% of the team would put their participation in games in jeopardy, never mind all the other reasons to get vaccinated (which are outside the scope of this board).

Many colleges are requiring vaccination for students to enroll/attend. That 85% number for Stanford football players borders on the inexcusable. Ole Miss at 100% just makes Stanford's number look even worse.

That's interesting. Shaw referred to the waiver process at the P12 Media Day, too.
Did the reasons for the waivers seem legitimate? Allergies? (There are options between mRNA and J&J.) Religious beliefs? Too much time around Paulson Adebo? (a vocal anti-vaxxer on Twitter before he deleted his account before his NFL pro day and the combine)
I find it interesting that some individuals would fear the Covid vaccine but not the game of football, CTE, Covid itself, or letting down their team. As of yesterday in Santa Clara County, the known incidence of Covid among vaccinated people was 7 per 100K per day; among unvaccinated people, it was 27. But it's undoutedly much higher among people that are being tested regularly, like athletes.

so if the "football program" is ~150 people (my uninformed SWAG) and ~15% were not vaccinated that's ~23 people. if the players that are unvaccinated (let's assume 5 out of ~100) then ~18 of ~50 others in the program are unvaccinated. If the "football program" is 200 people then of the non-players ~25 of ~100 are unvaccinated

Exactly. Regardless of what comprises the denominator, the numerator is too low. Not acceptable.
P.S. I also would like to know on exactly what grounds waivers are being granted by the University. It may (or may not) be a health privacy issue . . .

Typically waivers are granted due to medical reasons or a “sincerely held” religious reason. Just about the only legitimate medical reason not to get vaccinated is a severe allergic reaction, and even then it can probably be done safely.
