Man, I am getting really tired of stupid. I would guess Mr Rolovich is not long for his job.

He's probably just auditioning for a job in the SEC.

Vaccination rate in the SEC is... not bad.

https://www.tennessean.com/story/sports/2021/07/19/sec-commissioner-greg-sankey-six-14-sec-football-teams-have-reached-vaccine-rate-threshold/8010277002/

Winning trumps any stereotypes you might have about people in the south.

Are you suggesting his reason is stupid?  What makes you think that, if you do?
There are those for whom each vaccination is recommended against.

He openly said he would be remote at media day, and gave his reason as not having a vaccine.  That seems sound.

He said his reason for not having the vaccine was private.  He did not say that the CDC is trying to inject Martian technology into us;  he did not try to convince others that they shouldn't get the vaccine.   I respect that, and will give him the benefit of the doubt that his reason is rational.

I wish him luck in avoiding getting COVID, and being able to do his job.

A noble sentiment.  I admire your empathy.

I didn't write the OP, but I will suggest that yes, Rolovich's reason is very likely to be stupid.  I am not saying he's a stupid person, but I personally believe his reason is almost certainly stupid.

Since you cited a CDC article in defending medical reasons not to have the vaccination, to be clear, "CDC recommends everyone 12 years and older get vaccinated as soon as possible to help protect against COVID-19 and the related, potentially severe complications that can occur."  Anaphylaxis as described in the source that you cited is exceedingly rare - 2 to 5 cases per million, per CDC. That is roughly the same as his odds of being struck by lightning in the next year. The article you cited also provides alternatives - if you're allergic to one ingredient, get J&J; if allergic to another, talk to your doctor about Pfizer or Moderna.

He can skip the media day, but it is simply not going to be possible to coach or participate in collegiate-level sports and all the associated flights, bus rides, locker room talks, and other interactions without dozens of exposures per day.  He presumably needs to continue with daily testing like last season, but if he remains unvaccinated and contracts Covid or is involved in an outbreak within his team, too bad for him and too bad for Wazzu. No postponing, no rescheduling, no fallback tiebreaker scenarios, no whining.

The number of patients who go for a vaccine even with a lot of convincing is less than a quarter in my experience. Most of the people I see getting it at this stage either 1) finally got convinced by delta surge (not many) or 2) have to for work or some other org that requires it.

The people in 2 sometimes grumble about being forced, but none of them have had a worse side effect than the usual headache, as well as possible comments from their family about what an idiot they were for waiting this long.

RE: Today in opponent increasing the odds of attrition - lancer1968 - 08-09-2021

The Governor of Washington  (along with  City of Seattle and King County) announced an hour ago a "requirement" for employees of the State (and contractors with the state) to be fully vaccinated by mid-October.  He apparently indicated that substituting testing for the vaccination will not be allowed.

It does not apply to schools (any schools -- including the Universities).  Apparently he is letting the Boards of the Universities to make the edict.  But he clearly expects the Universities to follow suit.

The key is:  he is allowing only exceptions for medical or religious reasons -- not any type of personal or philosophical reasons.  So Rolovich is probably going to have to make a serious choice soon.

RE: Today in opponent increasing the odds of attrition - chrisk - 08-09-2021

Why are so many people saying that it is a personal decision wether to get vaccinated?

My understanding is that all states mandate that all children be vaccinated to attend school?

What is the rationale for saying it is a personal decision? Is it only because of FDA approval status?

What's the basis for distinction between "philosophical" and "religious" reasons?  Moral conviction could be based upon either. Does a dictate from a religious authority trump dictates of conscience?

Religious liberty is enshrined in the Bill of Rights and explicitly protected from discrimination in the Civil Rights Act.  This is probably historical since members of a religious group could be targeted because of their religion.  So far as I know, nobody is marching around with signs saying "Vegans will not replace us".
