Interesting choice of location. The average high in Scottsdale on May 29 is 96 degrees F. Other than ASU fans, who will make the trip to the Valley of the Sun?
Scottsdale Stadium is great for spring training, though.

Excited about the idea of the tournament. And initially when I read Scottsdale, I sort of assumed the tournament would be at a multiple-field/spring training type complex so you could have more than one game going at a time, but that doesn't appear to be the case.
Assuming this isn't the tournament's permanent home, then I really like the idea of rotating through spring training/minor league stadiums in the Pac-12 footprint. Obviously you have all the Cactus League stadiums in AZ, but maybe the minor league parks in Sacramento, Rancho Cucamonga, or Lake Elsinore? The Spokane Indians' park or the one in Tacoma would be great, too. Of course, the benefit of using a spring training facility for the conference tournament is that you don't have the same competition for space, but we're talking 4 days in May, so it shouldn't be too difficult for a stadium to fit us in during a minor league team's road trip.
But having it at a Cactus League stadium every year is kind of a cool idea, too. Interested to see what they do with hosting, and whether they try to find one place and have it stick (like the SEC does in Hoover, AL) or rotate it (like the ACC/Big Ten seem to do). I'm just glad for more tournament baseball!

Don't get me wrong, ColoradoTree, I love the tournament idea, just not the locale. I would feel differently if the games would be played under the lights at multiple Cactus League locations.
I know that Phoenix is basically as easy to fly to as Las Vegas, which I'm sure was a consideration. But I once went to a conference in Phoenix in early June with a colleague. We both brought our tennis racquets and made a deal that we would play a set when the temperature dipped below 100. We started our match at 11 pm.
I say play the tournament at Jackie Robinson Stadium in West L.A. There are plenty of Pac-12 alums from all schools in the L.A. area and the stadium is 10 miles from LAX.

Went to a gymnastics meet in Phoenix about 6 years ago. In April. It was 96 degrees with no wind. Awful.

I am not sure I like this move from the Pac-12. A double elimination tournament right before regionals can create awkward situations for teams. Winning can lead to more demands on the pitching staff (and an exhausting four days of baseball in Arizona heat). Losing can get you well rested for the next week. Additionally, the skeptic in me says the NCAA selection committee uses conferences tournaments selectively to boost some teams into a top 16 or top 8 position while ignoring other team's performances. Look no further than the most recent postseason. TCU ran through the Big 12 tourney jumping them into a top 8 seed, meanwhile Mississippi State got run ruled (TWICE) while going 0-2 in the SEC conference tournament and was still rewarded with a top 8 seed (which was absolutely crucial to their run in Omaha, had they been sent to Notre Dame that is an entirely different super regional). TCU was a quick exit in the NCAA tournament after playing 5 games en route to a Big 12 tournament championship. Perhaps the Pac-12 (or another conference) should be innovative and play a conference tournament in early March!
