W Golf: Curtis Cup Update - oldalum - 08-27-2021

Over the first two days, our golfers (Zhang and Heck) garnered 1.5 points playing together twice. Zhang won another two matches playing with other teammates, Heck lost two. The U.S. was down 4.5 to 1.5 after the first day, but reversed that and pulled into a 6-6 tie going into the final round singles matches tomorrow. Heck will be going out second, Zhang will be in the anchor match. To this point, Zhang has contributed to the most points of any US golfer (3.5), which is probably why she is going out last. Two other teammates had a role in 2 points each, and Heck is fourth of the eight golfers on the team with her 1.5 points.

Final round will be televised on the Golf Channel in real time, coverage starts at 1:45 a.m. Pacific.

In unrelated news, this year's golf schedule was just released. The NCAAs are back in Scottsdale again.

Team USA dominates the singles to win the Curtis Cup after being down 3 after the first day and down 4 at one point yesterday. They went 6-1-1 in the single matches today, which for decades has been the hallmark of USA teams in these matches across men & women, amateur & professional.

Heck won her match 3&1

Zhang tied her match and was the only player to go undefeated over the three days

Megha Ganne (incoming freshman next year) was an alternate on the team

Was kinda neat to see Rachel Keuhn win the clinching point. Her mother also won a clinching match in the Curtis Cup and was there to watch. I walked 18 with Rachel during the NCAA Regionals in May as a volunteer scorer. Really great person as well as a great player.
