My guess would be equally decent (but hardly great).

I will be very curious to see how the plays/offense might differ when McKee is in compared to West.

RE: Jack West to start vs KSU - jonnyss - 09-03-2021

in the past, david shaw has often started the more experienced qb, who "knows the playbook better," until we lose a few games. will this year be different?

RE: Jack West to start vs KSU - winflop - 09-03-2021

After two full years in the program, how does McKee not "know the playbook" by now? Either the playbook really is too complex or McKee is having comprehension issues - or both.

I really hope that West has made major strides forward from what we've seen of him the last two seasons. If not, I think we can consider McKee to be a bust. We will probably know within 24 hours.

No we won’t know in 24 hours. It’s a long season. McKee is a soph not JR

So we hope it’s like Hogan vs Colorado

McGee? Tits McGee?

I will agree w/you about this being a long season.

McKee is four years out of high school. If he’s not ready to start now will he ever be? Shaw put his eggs in one basket and is now living with it good or bad. I think he should actively look for a transfer QB for 2022 (and convince Admissions to accede). And get off the ball on recruiting two QB’s for 2023.

No, much too hard. He can invent a time machine to make John Elway 21 again and start him. Lots easier.

No clue how West will  do. But I do think he’s been wrongly labeled as below average based primarily if not exclusively on one start he made two years ago.  At a time he was not ready.

Quarterbacks at Stanford will never play up to their considerable recruiting talent under this regime until the playbook is scrapped and Shaw hires a real offensive coordinator to install a real, manageable college offense.  And Shaw gets out of the play-calling game.

The vaunted playbook we hear so much about is paralyzing talented players.

That's (been) my story, and I'm sticking with it!

<snip>

C'mon guys, don't make the situation worse than it is.

Last year was McKee's first in the program, and it was hardly a "full" year. The two years before that he didn't play football at all. Kevin Hogan had a full year in the program and still wasn't deemed ready at the start of 2012, so I'm not reading too much into McKee not getting the start. If anything, the coaches are showing more faith in McKee than they showed in Hogan by stating that Tanner will play tomorrow versus a Power 5 foe. We'll see if he's up to the task.

Not just one game. West was an unimpressive 13/19 for 154 with 0 TD/0 INT against Oregon last year. You can argue all you want about how he was thrown into that situation last minute. As the backup QB you need to be prepared to be the guy at a moment's notice.

I think it's hard to argue that based on his two starts, West is anything better than mediocre, and that's not good enough. So let's hope he's significantly improved.

You mean, using your example, you aren't reading that it seems like it's a mistake?

I'm just joshing. But I am getting ready for a repeat of 2012, and I would be whichever qb he started.  Not because of Shaw.  Just because I'm a half glass empty guy.

12-2 and a Rose Bowl win?  I'll take it!

Just went and looked at admittedly just the highlights of the Oregon game.  I thought West looked absolutely fine.  He made some really nice throws.
