Did Ohio State hire Shaw? - BostonCard - 09-11-2021

They just punted from the Oregon 34 yard line.  They did down it at the 1, but it took the Ducks three plays to get back to the 32.

To be fair, this was the first drive after failing to convert on fourth and seven from the 31.

BC

LOL, Ducks mount a 10-play, 99 yard touchdown drive.  Impressive, I gotta say.

Yep, and the Ducks took it 99 yards for the first score of the game.
The early morning start West Coast time doesn't seem to be bothering them.

If the Ducks do it again, I will be impressed (tOSU just downed a 60 yard punt at the one).

So far, Oregon looks a bit sharper.  OSU's Stroud can't seem to get anything going against the injury-depleted Duck D.

And, yes, that punt surprised me, especially since the Buckeyes went for it on 4th and 7 during the first drive.

What a difference a drive makes.  tOSU tied it.

Couple observations:
1) Anthony Brown looks great.
2) Oregon has burned 2 timeouts to avoid delay of game. (Apparently, it's not just Stanford.)

Update:
Make it all three timeouts.  With 6:20 remaining in the half.  This one had less to do with the clock and more to do with a mixup.

Ducks now up 14-7.

I hope they don't play this well against us.

Uptempo play while Ducks defenders were looking at their wristbands.
Receiver blew past flat-footed secondary.

Those three time outs would have been useful for Oregon.

BC

Those three time outs would have been really useful for Ohio State.

Hard to believe that between them, Oregon and Ohio State blew four time outs (a fifth was by Ohio State on defense onto set up for a third and short, though Oregon converted, and a sixth was to stop the clock after the Ducks failed to convert on third down).  Still, I thought only Shaw did that.

My thoughts, exactly. Yet another reason I'm rooting for the Ducks.

CJ Verdell is the real deal.

BC

Oregon has 223 yards rushing and it’s only midway through the third quarter.

But, really, come on. Cristobal should be let go. Those burned time outs were inexcusable. And, Ryan Day while you are at it. He burned at least one.

RE: Did Ohio State hire Shaw? - BostonCard - 09-11-2021

Ohio State is 0/3 going for it on fourth down.  Absolutely the right call down 14, but you gotta get those first downs (especially on 4th and 2).

4th and 2 on the Duck 8 with 3:50 to go in Q3 and trailing by 14. OSU goes for it but Shaw would have taken the FG, not properly factoring that the defense has been unable to stop the Duck running game all day long.

Shaw might have surprised you.  I think where Shaw tends to punt a lot is on fourth and 5+ from just beyond field goal range, where a punt doesn’t buy you much in terms of field goal range, and where probably going for it doesn’t have as much downside as he thinks.

A quick break from Shaw-bashing to point out that OSU just scored to bring the game to 28-21. Still anyone's game with almost a full quarter to play.

RE: Did Ohio State hire Shaw? - BostonCard - 09-11-2021

And just like that the fighting Chrystobals score again to make it a two touchdown lead.  It ain’t over, but tOSU is going to have to start doing something that they by and large have been unable to: stop Oregon’s running offense.

Compare Stanford's team "speed" to Oregon's. Not a good match-up.
Beat the Bucks, Ducks!

Methinks your bitterness is showing. Heh-heh. Hey, you'll get your shot at Oregon in, what, 3 weeks? Good luck

Now 35-28. The game has turned into an offensive slugfest, with neither team's defense able to stop the other's offense.

We will see who breaks serve.

(As soon as I say that, neither team can move the ball and has to punt).
