Great story on a great great place

Great article. I got to know the Goose because folks from where I worked in downtown Palo Alto for 14 years liked to have a group lunch outing there every week. Pitchers of Anchor Steam, peanuts, and great food. My favorite is the hot pastrami sandwich.
I didn't know all the tough times they've been through in the past few years! I'll have to go there more often.

Been a Goose patron since 1969, my senior year at SJS. I was there the night after the '71 Rose Bowl and the '91 BG. countless hoops games. How I got home I can't remember. I do remember the shuffle-boards...and carving my initials into the table(s).
And the eggs. Nothin' like 'em. AND the clams. When I was affiliated with The Bootleg, we had our own parking space out in front. Good days (and nights).

I probably won't make it back to campus until my 20-year reunion in a couple years, but fingers crossed this place is still there and thriving. I'll likely bring my older son this time around, at least, and I'd love to show him some of my favorite old haunts. With the Nuthouse and Oasis closing, it's just the Goose and Zott's left!

The revamped Zotts is really nice. The ownership group did a great job maintaining the charm, but also bringing it a bit more up to date. The only problem is that's is too crowded. Yada, yada, yada, Yogi Berra.

I haven't been there for that very reason. The craziest night I can recall: after the 1978 USC game, which Stanford SHOULD have won, and the overloaded biergarten. Joint was JUMPIN'! Post-game crowd, SC and Stanford people, plus a large group of folks from a software start-up called..
.Oracle. True story! Never saw Rizzotti's anywhere near that jammed, and my time there was from 1970 through 2012. First-date venue in May, 1972, with the woman who is now my wife of 48 years.

Why the hell did Walsh have Darrin throw the option pass on the second drive?
To me the classic play of the game was Bo Boxold stopping Charles White on fourth and an inch. I thought for sure that Stanford would win after that but Dils missed Marty Smith on fourth down deep in Trojan territory and that was that.

The ecstasies and agonies of West Coast Offense. Failure of the half-back option pass was the dagger. Over-thinking Walsh was, at times, just too cute. Big time football, however. It never got much better than that until EUTM.

I miss the Oasis. I enjoyed the food and the atmosphere to watch a Stanford game. I'm still mad about its closing.
I still see the place is vacant. I hope the building owners are happy that their greed (skyrocketing the rent) had led them to having no rent instead.

Funny thing, in the story about the Dutch Goose that was posted recently, I learned that the Beltramo family is landlord of both properties, the O and the Goose. And they were very accommodating when the Goose had financial problems because of the ADA lawsuit and COVID.

FWLIW, I really enjoyed both the Goose and Oasis. Used to go over to the Oasis pretty regularly.

Last time I went into the Goose to watch a football game (pre-COVID), the back area (the nice part) was filled with a bunch of Weenies watching the Kal game. Haven't been back to watch a game since.
