Stanford gets a swell future stealth pilot who can’t pass and Oregon gets a star from Boston College.
Another self inflicted wound in a new era of hundreds of kids seeking a new start and infusing other programs. But of course Stanford looks down on these kids.

You think it's the admissions office or Shaw?

I believe we have 5 Track transfers. It can happen

Players should have the ability to transfer freely, but sadly this has become a free agent market. I don’t think as currently practiced, this is advancing the academic interests of the student athletes.
And yet, I can’t think of how you can improve the system.

Very unlikely to be Shaw. It is hard to get into Stanford as a Freshman and even harder as a transfer student. The number of transfers we will get in any sport will be very limited. I am of the belief that Stanford has not done anything to make recruiting easier and we can't go out and bring in a starting team off the waiver wire unlike say Oregon or others.

I know there are folks on this board who come to their Stanford fandom through a lot of different reasons.
For me, probably because I cheer first for Stanford and secondly for Stanford football, I would choose die over change if the change means football considerations overwhelm the academic.
Of course, I would also whine excessively along the way to that death.

Over the summer Shaw did mention the greater possibility of grad transfers thanks to the freebie rule. It's on the mind.

The grad transfer rule brought the little bug Adams to Oregon in 2015. Without him Stanford wins and probably gets into the NC game. Now they have Brown who looked really good against Ohio State.
The rule provides a short term solution to a good team in need of a replacement at a key position.

The freebie is the reason track has several grad transfers from the Ivy League. They couldn’t play as Srs and not allowed a 5th year in the Ivy League
Not that Football will nope for Ivy League transfers

Baseball also has a very good all-Ivy transfer from Brown this season, IIRC.
There were a couple high-profile transfers from Ivies in football. OL from Harvard to LSU and WR from Dartmouth to Baylor. I think a UPenn OL to Michigan too. Maybe more.
