The Woof gods just put YOU in their crosshairs: Trap game for the Shawmen. I'm serious.

Fun tune.
And how about Lionel Richie on the tenor sax?  Was he even playing it?  (The trumpeter looked like he was).
Regardless, that's a long way to lead singer on "Three Times a Lady," "Easy Like Sunday Morning," and many other hits (with Commodores and solo).

OMG, there is no way to underestimate that video . . . the ultimate in cheese (on so many fronts).

The song is kind of catchy, but the video . . . goodness, talk about low budget for sets and props and plot . . . yikes!

But to bring it back to football, did you notice the one guy in the UCLA shirt?  Is that a good omen or a bad one for the next game?

Nice pull!  But as I recall, after a devastating start, Commodore Decker ultimately sacrifices himself to defeat the enemy and save the rest of his team.  I'm not sure I like the comparison <g>

That was a good pull.  And should we read anything into/be concerned about the title of that episode:  The Doomsday Machine?

P.S.  Pretty sure it was from this episode that the meme/phrase 'Gentlemen, I suggest you beam me over' originated.  That mantra (or words akin to it), unsurprisingly popped up in other ST episodes and movies, most notably in Star Trek IV - The Voyage Home (the whale movie where crew went back in time to late 20th century) when Chekov was asking to be beamed out of the "nuke-e-lear" ship named . . . you guessed it.

Yeah, my reaction too.  The lowest production value video for a hit song that I can think of.

Brick House is better song and better video.

I have always been a big Commodores fan, but I had never seen that "Lady" video.  How embarrassing.  I can't believe the band ever allowed that to be released to the public.  BTW, the long haired asian girl was a regular on Soul Train for many years.

To paraphrase Jack Sparrow’s quote to Commodore James Norrington, may Saturday be the day when they almost beat Stanford.

Another good line for the movie thread.

When archaeologists of the distant future excavate ancient landfills, they will marvel at our early tech.  This keyboard will be displayed in some future museum as a rare dinosaur of the past.  Museum guests will be amazed by the mammoth  proportions of this device.

Anything that cannot be done in 64K isn't worth doing.

hell you don't have to wait until the "distant future", just send a recent college graduate hire into the company storeroom where all the old tech equipment has been stashed for the last 10 years and see what their response is!

There's an entire YouTube genre devoted to "kids react to random technology from the 80's or 90's"

And the most topical one:
What do kids make of a Comodore 64

(clip was from 2013, when the Comodore turned 30).

The one thing that hasn't changed is the graphing calculator.  My son's TI-84 is functionally indistinguishable from my TI-85 from the mid-90's, down to the same crappy screen and relative lack of responsiveness, at a time when my phone can run R.

Turns out there is a reason:
