conditions (and/or pins) must have been harder in round 2. all teams in the top 10 had higher scores in round 2. Stanford's score was 2 higher than on round one and they moved from 16 to 7 back of the tournament leader. need a little Card charge tomorrow.

As the final groups are making the turn, Stanford leads but 4 other teams are within 5 shots. Thorbjornsen is 2nd and Shimp 3rd in the individual competition.

Off topic, but the youngest McNealy, Scout, is on the Baylor team. Based on his scoring, he probably wasn't recruited by Stanford. But then again, neither was Maverick, who walked on and then tied Tiger's record for most wins during a career.

Stanford shoots -11 today and holds a 1 shot lead over Oklahoma with 4 holes to play.
Maverick was recruited by Stanford fwiw.

Stanford's 1 shot lead is courtesy of Michael Thorbjornsen, Stanford's final player on the course, who birdied the 18th hole. Clutch!!
Thorbjornsen's final round 66 led a Stanford team on which each player shot par or better - Thorbjornsen 66, Shimp 67, Vilips 68, Alex Yang (frosh playing in his first college tournament) 68, Ng 70.
All of this with Walker Cupper Barclay Brown not playing. The result from this tournament has to be a h.uge confidence boost to the team and a message to the college golf world that Stanford can contend for a championship this season.

Remrkable: a second and a first in the the most competitive events of the year, and without their #2(Brown)

I know nothing about golf, but I've got a question:
What's up with the individual leader Michael Brennan (Wake Forest) scoring -11 and his team collectively scoring +3 ?
I imagine he has to be frustrated. Is he a superstar with no supporting cast, or did something odd happen regarding the team score?

College golf is a team sport. In tournaments like the Colonial (and the NCAAs), schools plays 5 golfers in each round with the lowest 4 scores in that round counting. Brennan had a great tournament, running away with the individual title. But he did not get enough help from his teammates to win the team title. It's not really frustrating. That's just golf.
The best college teams can get contributions from all 5 players and peak at the right time (which means peaking at the NCAA regionals and championship in May).

He just wrapped up play in the Walker Cup.
Our opponents this weekend also sacrificed players to this event.
And Texas, and perhaps another team, was without two top players/

The Walker Cup was held in May. I have no idea why Brown did not play this week. He played two weeks ago at the Fighting Illini Invitational. But it's entirely possible that he was beat out during qualifying by the 5 players who competed in Fort Worth.
