MWP MPSF tourney at Stanford Fri-Sun. Stanford beat Cal. Finals Sun. 2:45PM - M T - 11-18-2021

Stanford is seeded #4 in the MPSF Water Polo tournament. Only the winner of the tourney is sure to get in the NCAA tournament and Stanford would have a lot of challenges to win. But it is at Stanford's pool. (Yes, usually at least 2 go from MPSF, but I think they've snubbed Stanford when it finished 2nd in the tourney after a weak season as this has been.)

#4 Stanford plays the winner of the 5/6 match on Friday at 2:45PM.
If Stanford wins (which is likely, but not given), Stanford would play #1 Cal at 9:30AM Saturday. MAYBE a lot of Big Game tailgaters will come practice their cheering. (That means that a lot of weenies may be there.)

Lose and the 3rd game is for 3rd at 1PM Sunday.
Win and the 1st place game is at 2:45PM Sunday. With a chance for the NCAA tournament.

Unlike normal WP games, tournament games requires purchasing tickets. If you're going to make two games, buy the tourney pass. I'd suggest buying ahead as this may sell out.

Also, although there will be live video, that usually requires a fee as well.

Weather should be sunny and in the low 60s (probably mid 50s on Saturday morning). (The sun will still be to the SE, so if you want to sit in the sun, sit closer to the 50m pools - otherwise the sun reflects off the surface. Bring polarizing sun glasses. The shady side won't need the sunglasses (they may help), but may need an extra layer of warmth.)

Vaccine status will be checked (I think).

And remember, parking will be tight and maybe some distance away. Games only take about an hour, so don't be late. Maybe commuting by train or whatever is best.

Is that likely the end of the season? I don't remember how many at-large spots there are to the NCAAs.

IIRC, some number (10?) of years ago, Stanford was in a similar position (lost MPSF championship game and wasn't one of the top 2 seeds going into the MPSF tournament) and was not invited to the national tournament.

With COVID, there were changes in the tournament last year (as some conferences didn't play at all). Frankly, I don't know how many at-large bids there are this year, but I'd say that the season is most likely over. Even if 3 teams from MPSF go, probably Stanford isn't in.

Stanford left out of the NCAA tourney. Cal and USC get the at-large spots over us. I think debate had to be us vs Cal since we lost to them in OT in regular season and beat them in OT in the MPSF semis, but they did much better vs the LA schools than we did.

Stanford didn’t have enough Serb, Croatian and Hungarian players and the NCAA is all about diversity and hates Stanford anyway.

Stanford was 1-6 vs. UCLA, USC and Cal this season. Cal was 4-2 vs. UCLA, USC and Stanford. The Cardinal did not have a strong case to make the tournament.

So it's another missed chance to score DC points. This might be the lowest-scoring fall season we've had. Zero points out of football, men's soccer, men's water polo, and field hockey. A first-round exit for women's soccer. Only the cross country squads and maybe women's volleyball will bring home big points.
