Football Senior Decisions -
Jamesy - 11-28-2021
I thought it'd be good to have a thread once we confirm any of our eligibility remaining seniors are coming back, transferring, going pro or retiring.
This post by GMC has a nice summary of our seniors and how much eligibility they have:
https://www.gomightycard.com/2021/11/senior-day.html
Here's the first post I've seen, Kyle Petrucci entering the transfer portal:
https://twitter.com/KylePetrucci51/status/1465027095499710465
Implied (though not explicitly confirmed) that DWP is also moving on:

Isaiah Sanders, Houston Heimuli, and Dorian Maddox all posted on Instagram today that they are moving on. All expected departures.

There are only four players on Stanford's team at the moment that I would see as big losses were they to leave. That doesn't mean other players can't come in and replace them, because that's what's suppose to happen. But only four players I have seen that - to use an MLB term - have a positive WAR for Stanford IMO.
CB Kyu Blu Kelly
S Jonathan McGill
TE Ben Yurosek
WR Brycen Tremaine
The player development on the team seems as bad as any other aspect of the program.

BobK - 11-29-2021
Kelly will declare for the draft as he should
Yurosek is a true soph
Sure hope Tremaine can play again

Sanders and Maddox have exhausted his eligibility. The players that have eligibility and concern me:
Noah Williams
Ryan Johnson
Tucker Fisk
Gabe Reid
Michael Wilson
I'd love to see Booker stay another year but he's going to be drafted, maybe Day 2 (2nd/3rd round)

Tanner McKee would be a big loss too.

JFox is also out of eligibility.
I don't count on any fifth years coming back. Of the ones GMC has on his post, I'd love to have Reid and Fisk back, but no expectation of such. Of the 4th years, I doubt Booker comes back. Guessing Wilson comes back given his limited game time this season and his terrible ND performance. Only other 4th year senior I really hope comes back is Williamson. We'll need Bonner too if KBK leaves early.

On another note, which players on the current roster stand a good chance to be drafted in 2022? Some have mentioned Booker and Kelly. Anybody else?
Last year, we had five: Dalman, Little, Mills, Fehoko and Adebo.

It's a guarantee that there will be surprises in the transfer portal era, so no speculation from me.
Just hope all the guys end up getting that Stanford degree (and actually landing a transfer would be nice as well).

Wish 'em all well but can't help feeling they're bound for rude awakenings.

Different POV: I remember all too well what happened to Trent Edwards. I want to think that McKee is being reminded of same by people who care. The rules may afford more protection for QBs today. But, still. He stands a far better chance as a UFA, watching, learning, out of harm's way.

Dang on Ryan Johnson. I view one key to next year as retaining the possible contributors. indictment of the program?

IIRC, Ryan's father passed away prior to his enrollment at Stanford, with that said it maybe just time to be closer to home.

He is a starter so you hate losing depth but he was never very productive, and it isn't obvious that there would be scholie for him next year. Some of the younger DEs were taking snaps from him by the end of the season. I like seeing players stick around for a fifth year and I wish Ryan the best, but I am not stressed out about this loss. I wouldn't consider this an indictment of the program. If Wilson or Booker or Treymayne end up transferring to another school that would be an indictment of the program. We probably only have room for a handful of fifth years. Let's hope we get Wilson and Tremayne.

Defensive line is our position of least depth. We will have to play true freshman if enough of our upperclassmen leave with eligibility.
I genuinely wonder about Booker and KBK in the draft. At the beginning of the year, I thought they might be shoe-ins, but neither of them played at the level of an early draft entrant. On the flip side, they might want to go before their stock drops further.

Winflop... Williams? Often out of position. Often takes bad angles. Sinclair needs to move to safety. Too small to be an effective every down ILB.
