LSU and USC are playing take no prisoners in a sport for cold blooded killers.
Stanford is playing pick up sticks with a guy who thinks the answer to people not performing, isn't to replace them, but to lean into them when they are failing. Ugh.
Anyway, the money being given to coaches is going to bring the system down. Players - even with NIL - are not going to tolerate coaches getting paid $15M per year while they have to take time out of their lives to make money because the schools won't pay them, even though they are de-facto employees.

Brian Kelly is one of the Top 3 College Football Head Coaches, IMO.
It will be interesting to see if he can actually get better talent at LSU than he could at Notre Dame. There is no guarantee he will, but Kelly's teams are always physical, and that wins at every level.

LSU's last three head coaches each won a national championship there.
Salary is surely an upgrade as well.

Hence the three national championships this century vs Notre Dame's none, not to mention that Louisiana is very fertile recruiting ground with a long history of the best athletes in the state staying home.
I believe this is the first time ever that a Notre Dame head football coach has voluntarily left for a job at a different school.

Crazy that college coach salaries are pushing double digits and almost double most nfl coach salaries.
The main thing seems to be that there is no lateral movement amongst nfl teams. No NFL team poaches the head coach of another by competing on salary. I wonder why that is or if it is just taboo. Otherwise you’d think a good coach with a bad QB would jump for money or the job security a good an provides.

Many of the conference tv contracts are up for renewal in the next few years. Schools (especially in the B10 and SEC, the conferences with the most revenue) are spending big $ in advance of what is expected to be a financial windfall.

Kelly took notice of who SC hired, saw ND's California pipeline of recruits starting to dry up (just like the entire state) and said to himself..."gee LA after Thanksgiving may not be all that much fun", and who knows about those revengeful nerds in Palo Alto, someday they may re-discover the fun in being brutes.

I agree that sadly, the next Notre Dame coach is also likely to be an ex-Cincinnati coach.
I have to say that I am a bit surprised by Kelley to LSU. He has a good chance of going to the playoffs *this year* at Notre Dame, and has the advantage of Notre Dame’s national reputation and their cupcake scheduling (of which, unfortunately, we are a contributor). At LSU he will have games against Alabama every year. I mean, I get the OMG SEC and their eight game conference schedule is a bit overrated, but his path to the playoffs will be much harder than at ND.
In the short term, a little bit of chaos in one of our rivals is a good thing.

Actually ND has only played Air Force a couple of times in the last 15 years. One of those Air Force won 41-24.
And, of course, we have certainly held our own with them over that same time period.
