WBB: Tallest PG in WCBB History now playing for South Carolina -
joemontes - 12-04-2021
Their backup PG Raven JOHNSON is gone for the season with a season-ending injury, while their starting PG Destani HENDERSON was not available due to an unspecified injury, so who did Coach STALEY install as her starting PG for their game vs Kansas State yesterday?
None other than her 6'4 backup PF Laeticia AMIHERE who did not disappoint, finishing with 11 points, 7 rebounds, 5 blocks and a career-high 7 assists (as well as only 1 turnover) in 27 minutes. That's pretty impressive, besides being a jaw-dropping move by STALEY.
There are two videos on the righthand side of the following webpage showing AMIHERE's PG skills - both showing her dribbling the entire length of the court, then making a no-look pass to LITTLETON who connects on a 3pointer in the 1st video, and powering her way for a contested layup in the 2nd video - during their game vs Kansas State:
Kansas State vs. South Carolina - Box Score - December 3, 2021 - ESPN
And to think that we've been criticizing Tara for insisting on using Lacie HULL as her starting PG for the season...hahaha!

Magic Johnson, at 6'9", was a pretty good point guard.
But yes, Staley's use of Amihere does a lot to explode stereotypes of point guards in WBB. Really, really interesting.

Having watched the game yesterday, I would agree with the assessment that Amihere played well. She made a very good team look better. The one characteristic that stood out, to me, was how low her hands were when she dribbled. They are going to be a very tough team to beat when we play them later on this month!

I remember when Nicole Powell played point forward for us.

That is absolutely terrifying!
She's had such a modest career considering her reputation before college but it's great to see she is still quietly developing her talent despite assuming a supporting role in most games for South Carolina so far. She's got a long bright career still ahead of her with the abilities she displayed in that video.
Thank you for sharing, I've seen a few South Carolina games but really had no idea she was capable of all that.
