Wow, this could be very nice for incoming class! To me it remains #1 in the "recovery" plan to bring in a strong class. Does seem like the staff and hopefully others in the University are doing everything possible to make this happen.

This is the biggest recruiting news in 4 years (since McKee committed). Enormous news for Stanford. The team may need some changes on the coaching staff, but nothing positive is going to happen without talent, and Bailey is a major talent. Anyone who is poo-pooing this commitment should reconsider.

Talent definitely matters. But what you do with it also matters in a big way. That's where coaching, player development and S&C come in. I have seen too many highly-touted recruits fail to live up to their billing in recent years, so we have to get that end of the equation right, or excellent recruiting will not translate into Ws on the field.

So does Bailey get to follow in Curtis Robinson's footsteps, an even higher rated LB from Mater Dei, who is one of far too many elite recruits Stanford Football has failed to either take advantage of and/or develop? Or will he live up to his recruiting billing?
It's easy to understand why Stanford fan reaction to a commitment from this player isn't what it might have been a year or two ago.
Do the fans trust David Shaw to surround players like Bailey with the coaching and development needed to make them into difference making players? My assumption is the answer to that question is "no" for the majority of Stanford fans on Dec. 5, 2021.

Before I knew anything about him, I figured Bailey was a MLB, as he was labeled a LB at first. but now he's referred to as an Edge rusher, and I'm seeing he is a dominant one, with 14.5 sacks this season.
One thing about a player who is a dominant pass rusher, is he should be able to play early and make a difference on obvious passing downs, even if he isn't able to be an every down player right away.

Stanford is probably not going anywhere in 2022. So play the guys who can deliver athleticism even if they can't master the 633 page special teams handbook. Forget about redshirting anybody with talent. 2022 is all about 2023.

IMHO Robinson was a tweener in terms of size for ILB and speed for OLB. I seem to recall he had some injury issues early on.

It remains difficult for this fan to get excited about Stanford football, however, when the elephant remains in the room.

Robinson made somebody's practice squad but I dont know if he stuck. He had way too many injury issues at Stan but played well his 5th year, and we didn't seem to know where to play him, unfortunately.

I hope he sticks with it. James Vaughters tried, tried, and triied again and now is part of the rotation at Pittsburgh.
