Guess too many separate incidents caught up with him. Will he retire for good this time, or find another college coaching gig?

What an absurd choice from the beginning. College is a different game. Plus how often did Meyer coach at tOSU or Florida where he didn’t have the far more talented team. Then there is the rest of it. I bet Trevor Lawrence is happy.

Good. He has no business coaching professional players who won't take his bullying methods like college players had to. He seemed lost and out of his element. He probably did enough damage to his reputation that he won't be hired as a coach again... Perhaps a TV studio.

I can only echo the sentiments of lex24 and PVTree above: professional athletes won't take the abuse of an old school prima donna coach who thinks he owns your soul. I respect fierce competitors; but Meyer is a sore loser with a mean, obsessive streak. At this point, he might be too toxic to touch, even for a TV studio.

How many college head coaches have succeeded in NFL. I mean true College guys. Not those like Bill Walsh that were NFL guys that spent a short stint coaxing at College level then moved to NFL.

Probably an auto-correct but I am pretty sure Walsh would have agreed it was a lot of "coaxing". Supposedly he never did like anything about recruiting.

Carroll and Harbaugh come to mind, though one could argue that Carroll was an NFL man first (Patriots), then had success at USC, and then returned to the pros (Seahawks), so he was not purely a college guy. Harbaugh was successful at the 49ers, but his tenure did not last long due to, well, some rough edges he has in common with Meyer. Matt Rhule, former Baylor coach, is making an attempt at the Panthers, but current trends are not good. The list is short.

The coach kicked the kicker so the kicker convinced Khan to kick the coach to the curb.

Those are success stories, but I don't think either guy fit the "College Guy" model.
Carroll definitely had NFL experience prior to his college success, so going back to the NFL was likely easier for him than a true college guy.
Harbaugh was a QB in the NFL long enough that he also doesn't really meet the college guy model.
For me a college guy would have had very little, if any, experience as a player or position coach in the NFL. Then would also spend at least ~6+ years at a college head coach.
Tyrone Willingham - If he went to the NFL after Notre Dame - Would have been a college guy IMHO.
Bill Walsh I - Spent too much time as an NFL assistant coach to qualify - IMHO.
Dennis Green - Would be a tougher call. His experience in the NFL was limited, but he had some experience in the NFL.
David Shaw - Has 10+ seasons in college, but has almost that many years coaching in the NFL.
Jim Harbaugh - Had 15 years as an NFL player and 2 years as a position coach. That easily offsets the ~7 years as a college coach.
So of the most successful Stanford coaches over the last 45 years, only Willingham could have gone to the NFL as a true college guy.
For comparison - Urban Meyer has 35 years in the coaching industry and his first time in any role in the NFL was here in 2021. That's a college guy.
Meyer had other baggage, but I think an owner that is hiring someone with 15+ years of college coaching experience without any time as a player or coach in the NFL should really think about that selection.
Given the realities of NIL, I suspect that for the next 10 years it probably will make sense for Power5 colleges to avoid hiring coaches without any NFL experience. The NIL money and obligations will likely make college coaching more like the NFL. Two big differences will remain of course. The college coaches have to worry a bit about the class schedules and college coaches have to love talking to the parents of 16 & 17 year-old kids.

Jimmy Johnson is probably the best example of a college guy succeeding in the NFL. He won championships at both levels.
Currently, Kingsbury isn’t doing too badly.

With the emergence of NIL and the transfer portal you can be sure that college athletes aren't going to take the abuse of an old school prima donna coach who thinks he owns your soul either.

Kick your kicker in the leg? Stupid. Plus, he should know that kickers are sensitive.
Urban Meyer playing grab ass with a woman not his wife is too big a distraction for him to coach an NFL football team, even though he admitted it was a mistake. He's fired.

I saw Urban Meyer being interviewed on Charlie Rose, a couple of years out from his national championship with the Buckeyes. He had a higher bar than his rings -- he was talking about what he would need to do to have a perfect, undefeated season. I could tell, during the interview, that Meyer thought the sun shone out of his &%$.
