I know many of you will think this is crazy, but I think the Pac-12 should move to 100% streaming of games and fans should get to vote on when they want games played.
Take the game out of the hands of TV executives and put it into the hands of fans.

Wut? Judging from how much complaining there is from fans about late games, it seems doubtful fans would ever vote for them to be late.

If it was actually left to a public vote, the reality is that Stanford Football would not end up on TV...we are just too small of a fan base :)

Back to the OP, I think this is a great idea. Smart to pool knowledge, connections, resources, and most of all: buy in from stakeholders.
The new commissioner already seems about 1000 times more attentive to the issues that matter than Scott, who basically let the conference rot for half a decade.

The guy was in charge of Entertainment & Sports for MGM. He knows where the big money is.

Agree. But what will boost the conference is getting better players. Talent level in PAC-12 has dropped considerably. I think some of that is California doesn’t produce as many high quality players. I may be wrong on that. But I think the numbers have dropped.

When do you vote. How many votes do you get. And then there’s the potential of fans of other teams voting to screw their rivals. There are travel considerations to boot. It’s not gonna happen. Period.
TV is anything but dead when it comes to what networks are willing to pay. If they see their money is not well spent, things may change. Not until then.

Nope, streaming is TV 10 years ago. The future is gaming, so maybe our commish can think of how we can play the game, using avatars, on Fortnight.

That future is conservatively ten years away. For the foreseeable future there is no streaming model for live sports that generates revenues remotely close to what linear programming does. Take a guess at how many people will pay (and how much they will pay) to stream a Stanford football game as compared to our share of the impeding new (2024) media rights deal.

Well it's not free because you need a cable or satellite subscription to watch almost all college football games (including the playoffs) but the way that linear channels are bundled together justifies massive rights fees that schools like Stanford benefit from. Right now no conference (or school) could come close to matching those revenues by moving to a streaming-based model.

Might happen sooner if someone tries another whack at bundling (cable companies won a lawsuit against a Maine law https://www.tvtechnology.com/news/maine-drops-fight-for-cable-a-la-carte-law). Still, the atmosphere is shifting against anti-competitive behavior, and cable companies keep losing customers (including me).
