USC Mens BB postpones games next weekend - Spiny_Norman - 12-24-2021
USC men's hoops has postponed its games next weekend vs. Arizona and ASU because of COVID. This is after they also cancelled a game on Dec 21 vs. Oklahoma State. Hope that they are able to make their game at Stanford on Jan 8.

UCLA has also postponed the hosting of the Arizona schools next week as well.
UCLA has not played since December 11.
Some schools are piling up a lot of games to makeup.

Don't be surprised if most of the BB season is wiped out.
Omicron is the second most contagious virus in the world. Only Measles is more contagious, and we have a fail safe vaccine for that one. Over the next 2-3 months the deluge of infections is going to be overwhelming. Luckily most people will be fine in the short term, although many will have subtle chronic symptoms. And some not so subtle.
I hope everyone on the board stays healthy.

Hospitalizations have been surging in the LA area. That wave doesn't seem to have hit the Bay Area
yet.
Stanford students are not supposed to travel to campus if they are positive. Not likely to be much practice if any before the Cal game if it even takes place. Because they are scheduled to play Cal on Sunday, they can probably hold off on making a decision until late in the week

Maybe you're right. OTOH, I could see other scenarios unfolding, including one where the rule is "If you test positive, you don't play. Otherwise, you may."
Of course, that won't be the rule for Bay Area schools.
I could see a March Madness favoring the laissez-faire regions of the country (which generally isn't Pac 12).
But in that scenario, I also see a LOT of pushback by UCLA, SC, AZ (and I suspect Oregon will be good by season's end, if they play their games - that coach is excellent).
I just think people are tired of restrictions, no matter how prudent such steps may be.
Also, do you really think March Madness will be "wiped out" due to Omicron? I just don't see it . . .

Cases are already coming down in South Africa. As with other waves, I think omicron will take about a month to peak, and then will start to come down. If that is correct (and COVID has made fools of many of my other predictions), then I think things will flatten by mid January and should be falling fast by the time March rolls around. Fingers crossed.

Fingers crossed.I hope so too. However, there is nothing that says there won't be another variant that starts a new spike in Feb. that peaks in March. I know it sounds pessimistic, but IMHO we just have to realize it can happen. Sports will have to struggle along as best they can given whatever happens next. Maybe this is the "last significant variant", but somehow I doubt it.
