He's a former Stanford DB coach under Harbaugh. Left with Taggart to go to Western Kentucky.

Why would Stanford need a new Defensive Coordinator? Don't you know that when guys are down they need to be supported! Because obviously, no coaches ever lose their ability to field high performing units. You know what they say about statistics!

Sorry, couldn't resist.

David Shaw's wholesale inability to hold coaches accountable for performance and even try to improve his coaching staff when it oversees failure, is why he will never again be hired for another coaching job after Stanford.

Maybe Shaw has enough hold over Anderson that he requires a read and react defense (which would mirror his conservative views concerning offense). A couple of old ex-Stanford defenders I know have bitched about the lack of attacking linebackers for years. At times it seems like the opposing QB’s could put the ball on the ground, readjust their jock, pick up the ball and still find a receiver.

What difference does it make? David Shaw is in charge of everything. If you don't fix what isn't working when in charge, who cares who's idea failed?

The difference is perception for those of us who like to attack and not to sit back and let things happen to us. I haven’t lived a passive life and I admire those who try to make things happen. Go down with the ship, etc.

I don’t get why no changes have been made.

I do know that a few years back, Anderson was a darling of the board.  There was concern he’d get an HC job.  Akina has been recognized as a top DB coach for some time.  Developed a lot of NFL players.  They haven’t forgotten how to coach.  The talent level has dropped precipitously.

I would like to see a more attacking style of defense.  My guess is Anderson didn’t feel comfortable exposing the back end.

Not sure where you're going with this, Lex. . . .

And…as George Carlin pointed out…wide receivers.

Per TOS, Anderson extended after this season.

Now that I've seen Coach Stand-pat Shaw's plan for the '22 season, I will make the first prediction of the year: 2-10.
