Artist behind The Claw passes away - 82 Card - 01-08-2022

Aris Demetrios, the artist that created White Memorial Fountain, more commonly known as The Claw, passed away on December 12. The Daily has a piece on the artist and the creation of The Claw: Aris Demetrios, artist behind The Claw, passes away. I thought some folks here may be interested.

Great story, thanks for posting! I grew up a mile from the campus (father was a professor) so, needless to say, passed by there quite a few times!

One of my favorite sculptures on campus, and indelibly etched in my mind as the center of student life--far more than the old quad.  So many events at White Plaza.  The one that sticks in my mind was the candlelit vigil for the Tienanmen Square massacre.  Students surrounded the Claw and every other part of White Plaza with candles.  It was beautifully sad.
