I haven't read it yet, but I took several humanities-ish seminars with him while at Stanford where you peer review/edit each other's work, and he was a surprisingly thoughtful and articulate guy, and his writing was really, really good. I'm not surprised it's gotten excellent reviews.

For a few years after graduating, Dan wrote a blog/column (for Yahoo, I think) about life as a professional player overseas.  I recall there being some interesting stories.  I plan to check out the book.

I still think he was headed for the NBA until that ACL tear.  His game never really fully recovered.
