What a fabulous Brink interview. A little bit of basketball insight in there but mainly she just seems like an incredibly well adjusted, mature Stanford student.
And a nice interview with the Hulls, too. I thought it was particularly interesting that Lacie cited the all female coaching staff as a major plus to being at Stanford. I've certainly thought that as an observer for a long time, but it does not get much discussed. The NFL with 70% Black players and 0% Black owners and a tiny number of Black head coaches is now in the news; Tara has mentioned the decline in female head coaches in WBB and yet we seldom hear much about the fact that an increasing number of men are head coaches of WBB teams. Nice to know that our female coaching staff might actually be a recruiting advantage.

Both interviews...really excellent.

Thanks for sharing! Great interviews! It's amazing watching sometimes how players develop and gain maturity dealing with the media and answering questions. Cam did not seem comfortable in that role at all in her freshman year. And now, so composed and well spoken. We should all be proud of the Stanford student athletes for how well they represent our university.

Along these lines, I typically get frustrated that the Hulls tend to sound like graduates of the Bull Durham School of Media Relations, but this time around the answers are a little more candid and less canned, thanks in large part to the women/girls in sports angle.

Tiny number = 1 black head coach at the moment.

Both interviews really interesting, revealing. (And I found our Stanford players much more polished, better interview subjects, that the two women doing the interviews!) Yes, the Hull's comments re women coaches intriguing, but also their comments about their teammates AND their other fellow Stanford students -- that there is so much talent there, that these are all outstanding people in a wide range of fields, and being surrounded by such is one of the attractions of Stanford for them. In other words, if you're academically inclined and/or have interests beyond your sport, Stanford is a special place and has much to offer. Cam implicitly made a similar comment when she said that she really likes school, one of the reasons she chose Stanford, and she's excited to get back into the classroom this year, to be able to interact with her professors in person.
Another comment that struck me, more basketball specific. Cam's comment that because of her awareness of and concern with her fouling, she tends to be cautious and tentative at the beginning of games, thus taking her a while to become comfortable in a game.

Agreed with both those observations. I took it to mean Cam can become more aggressive and go for more blocks the deeper in the game she goes without foul trouble, among other things.
