Shaw's salary in the news again -
82lsju - 02-07-2022
Quote:Congressman Bill Pascrell Jr. (D-NJ-09), the Chairman of the House and Ways Subcommittee on Oversight, announced in a press release Friday that Stanford would be scrutinized as part of an ongoing investigation into the salaries of college football coaches at several universities.
...
“Stanford’s head football coach reportedly received approximately $9 million in compensation in 2019, making him the university’s highest paid employee by far,” the inquiry reads. “It is unclear how such lucrative compensation contracts further Stanford’s overall educational mission and benefit your student body as a whole.”

Can't open the link to the letter to Stanford for some reason. The other links open just fine. Conspiracy, methinks.
Looking forward to the Shawpologists claiming he deserves every penny. . . .

3 million per win... Shaw is a financial genius!

Cardcrimson, you miss the mark on this Shawpologist's take, which is...
Why is Shaw to blame? I, too, would take the money if it were offered to me. It seems odd to me that folks are directing their ire at Shaw and not the Athletic Director and the other higher-ups who "negotiated" and approved Shaw's salary package.

Guys lighten up. This all could play out in an SNL skit. There are more important things to worry about, like Boris Johnson's hair cut.

Quite true, but perhaps they fear they'd be hypocritical for crushing Eileen Eu for skiing for China and collecting brobdingnagian endorsement deals in China, where she is also a professional model.

While they are at it, they could bash Olympic pole vault champion "Mondo" Duplantis for representing Sweden rather than the U.S. despite his American birth.
Of course take one look at his Swedish model girlfriend and you can understand why he did it. Fame and fortune be damned.

Stanford is a private school. Pascrell should be focused on how SCOTUS is about to start telling Stanford who they can and can't admit, and not what the football coach makes. Dumbass.

Stanford is a non-profit and enjoys tax exempt status, yet finds a way to pay someone $9 million a year. Pascrell is also asking for a list of everyone at the university making over a million per year. Should be interesting.
That said, it almost sounds as if you're lamenting our government's intrusion into private institutions. Think I'll stay away from that topic. . . .

If congress wants to put together some legislation limiting how much universities with some federal tax exempt status can pay their athletic coaches, I'd like to hear about it. But this is just a dumb publicity stunt.

the table with Officers, Directors, Trustees, Key Employees, and Highest Compensated Employees has 24 people on it, the lowest total comp is $405k and she's not on the list, but she gets paid by both Stanford (as a professor) and the Hoover Institution (as the Tad and Dianne Taube Director of the Hoover Institution) so might be on the Hoover Institution list of highest comped employees

Where are Haase and Tara?
Mick Cronin, Dana Altman, and Andy Enfield all make $3-4M a year, and even Mark Fox at Cal makes $1.5M. What does our guy make???
Meanwhile, as of a few years ago, I saw $2.3M for Tara. Why isn't she on this list?

Meanwhile, as of a few years ago, I saw $2.3M for Tara. Why isn't she on this list?
Tara was in one 990 a few years ago but that's the only time I have seen her listed and I vaguely recall it was because her new contract that year got her in the top five paid list. I have not seen Haase listed. I'm also not a tax lawyer or accountant so don't know the exact rules for being listed as "
Officers, Directors, Trustees, Key Employees, and Highest Compensated Employees".
There are two lists in the 990, one on page 8-11 and another on pages 94-95 of the PDF, the first one also includes trustees (who got paid $0)
You appear to have to list the top five paid employees, then the others are officers, trustees, and key employees, I could see Tara and Haase not making the list as key employees (there appear to be instruction for what a "key employee" is but it is not included in the 990) so they would not have to be listed. Page 8 only lists two "key employees" (Wallace and Minor) so that's why I think they are not listed
from page 8 of the PDF
a Complete this table for all persons required to be listed. Report compensation for the calendar year ending with or within the organization's tax year.
- List all of the organization's current officers, directors, trustees (whether individuals or organizations), regardless of amount of compensation. Enter -0- in columns (D), (E), and (F) if no compensation was paid.
- List all of the organization's current key employees, if any. See instructions for definition of "key employee." List the organization's five current highest compensated employees (other than an officer, director, trustee, or key employee) who received reportable compensation (Box 5 of Form W-2 and/or Box 7 of Form 1099-MISC) of more than $100,000 from the organization and any related organizations.
- List all of the organization's former officers, key employees, and highest compensated employees who received more than $100,000 of reportable compensation from the organization and any related organizations. List all of the organization's former directors or trustees that received, in the capacity as a former director or trustee of the organization, more than $10,000 of reportable compensation from the organization and any related organizations. See instructions for the order in which to list the persons above.
Helton and Enfield are in the USC 990 as they are were the second and third highest paid USC employees so had to be listed
