WBB: Stanford 91 -- Utah 64 - 81alum - 02-10-2022

Preview:

Utah is 27th according to Massey's computer algorithm, 21st according to the NET, giving it the clear 4th best rating in the Pac 12 after us, Oregon, and Arizona--and at this point is a significantly better team than Oregon State.  They are 14-7 overall, 5-4 in the Pac 12.  They played Oregon within 4 and lost in overtime to Colorado or they would look even better.  They are one of the best offensive teams in the country and one of the best three point shooting teams in the country.

The preview and thread for our last game against Utah is here:

https://thecardboard.org/board/showthread.php?tid=22856&highlight=wbb

It was a game we could easily have lost.  We turned the ball over a lot early in the game, we seemed slow to adjust to defending the three point line, and Utah had a 37-30 half time lead.  Even though we exploded for 30 in the 3rd, Utah still had a 63-60 lead after the 3rd quarter.  Our defense finally locked down in the 4th, but we couldn't get the lead until 5:42 left in the game.  We were behind for about 7/8 of the game.

Since we beat Utah at their place Utah has gone 5-3 and has won their last 4 in a row.  They are on a roll.  In their last game against USC, Kennedy McQueen went 6/7 from three point range for them.  7 different Utah players made treys in that game.  In the previous game against WSU, it was Gianna Kneepkens who went 3/5.  Basically, nearly everyone for Utah shoots the 3 and different players get hot on different nights.  In our last game against them, Utah made 11 treys out of 28 attempts--more than half of their attempts were from beyond the arc.

Hopefully playing at sea level and having played Utah before will help us perform better than we did on the road against them.  If Utah's shooting gets hot and we have an off night--then there could be more suspense about the outcome than we would like.

Utah's 3 point shooting scares me.  Remembering Tara is coaching our team eases my fears.

gostanford.com says TV coverage will be on Pac-12 Mountain, but according to my Sling guide that will be at 10pm Pacific.

no live tv?!?!?

6 pac-12.com stations, with 3 games being broadcast live (including cal-colorado). and then nothing live at 9, and 7pm games broadcast at (my sling guide says) 10:30.

presumably they are short of broadcasters and each pair will double up and do a game tape-delayed as if it were live.

imo it would be MUCH better if stanford would just live-stream the game. i just emailed eileen roche and wilder treadway.

RE: WBB: Stanford vs. Utah Friday 7pm - mbdude - 02-11-2022

Dish has 4 Pac12 games listed at 700pm; Stanford is 1 of them

The way to test if they are short of broadcasters or channels is to check if the Stanford-Utah will be streamed live. If it will be streamed live, it means that they are short of channels, not broadcasters. In the Bay Area we have the Pac-12 Net (Comcast 823) and Pac-12 Bay Area (Comcast 1330). Pac-12 Net is carrying the conflicting UA-ASU game at 6 PM, either because of contractual requirement or because it is deemed to be of greater interest across the whole Pac-12. Pac-12 Bay Area is carrying the Cal-CU game at 7 PM. Yes, Cal is at the bottom of the standings, but I think they are contractually entitled to a certain amount of live coverage. So Stanford-Utah gets pushed into replay time.
Note that the treatment is reversed on Sunday, with our CU game carried live and the Cal-Utah game pushed into replay time on Pac-12 Bay Area.
Lastly, this is opening weekend for softball, with Pac-12 Net carrying many softball games, creating more competition for time slots.

For what it's worth my Sling guide shows Utah @ Stanford from 6-8 pm PST on Pac-12 Mountain.

I’m not sure whether I’m confused or the networks are confused or both. Here is what I’ve gleaned from searching for our game vs Utah today on Comcast and Sling:
= Comcast PAC-12 Network Channel (823) is showing a delayed, albeit truncated, version of our game tonight at 1:30am-3am.
= Comcast Bay Area (1330) and Sling Bay Area will be showing the game at 10:30pm tonight.
= Sling's Pac-12 Mountain Channel will be showing the game at. 12am-1:30am tonight. (Sling Mountain also lists a 6pm-8pm time, but the game will not have started by then, thus the confusion.)
In the past, the game has "magically" appeared on Sling in spite of what is shown on their schedule.

RE: WBB: Stanford vs. Utah Friday 7pm - Softball Fan - 02-11-2022

Please post any updates about viewing for the game.  I get all the PAC-12 channels so all I need is one to show it.  I'm going out for dinner if I can't watch it live but will stay home if its broadcast at 7:00 pm (or 6:00 pm).   My Spectrum on-screen cable guide is the last thing that will be updated correctly.

My bet is that it will be streamed live at 7 PM but not broadcast live on either Pac-12 Net or Pac-12 Bay Area. I went to the Pac-12 website's Watch/Pac-12 Network Live and clicked "See More" repeatedly in the list of upcoming events (which includes streamed events) until the Utah game came up with a "LIVE" notation for 7 PM.
Stanford-Utah
Note that the replays are only 1.5 hrs long, so you may not see the whole game in the replays, especially if there is OT.

you seem knowledgeable about pac-12.com. how are they short of channels? they have 12 teams and 6 channels. how is it that they have 6 channels yet only show 3 games? every week with or all games show on 2 channels rather than 1?

thanks. i hope you’re right. as i understand, pac-12.com requires us to sign in to a tv provider in order to watch the game. since the pac-12 still doesn’t have a contract with directv, many of us use sling; so we do depend on sling’s actual programming rather than on pac-12.com’s intent.
we'll see if sling or pac-12.com is correct.

While the Pac-12 has the main channel ("Net") and six regional channels (Bay Area, Los Angeles, Mountain, etc.), with Comcast in the Bay Area I only get two channels, Net and Bay Area. So, for tonight's game, there are only two channels for broadcasting the game live. And the time slot has been given to competing programming as noted above. This is what I meant by shortage of channels. But, as I have Comcast, I will be able to stream the game live.
I notice that the Stanford-Utah game is listed as a Pac-12 Mountain production while the Cal-CU game is listed as Pac-12 Bay Area production. Does this mean that Comcast customers in Utah and Colorado will see the Stanford game live and the Colorado game on delay, i.e., the reverse?
I am not familiar with the channel availability on Sling. If you can get all six regional channels, including Mountain, you might be be able to see the game live on Sling.

RE: WBB: Stanford vs. Utah Friday 7pm - martyup - 02-11-2022

My FUBO guide shows only 3 Pac-12 WBB games tonight, not including Stanford vs. Utah.  I am in Idaho, so my FUBO package includes the main Pac-12 channel and the Washington channel.  Looks like I'm SOL for watching the game live.

According to the Pac-12 website, this game is being broadcast on the Pac-12 Mountain network.

RE: WBB: Stanford vs. Utah Friday 7pm - crackpot - 02-11-2022

Pretty sure Sling users won't be able to stream it live, either. All Pac-12 will do is tell you to go to Sling, but that doesn't help if it isn't showing it on one of the Pac-12 channels live.

For ($11/month) less than the price of attending one game in person, you can add the Sports Plus add-on package with all the PAC-12 channels.  Since you say you get PAC-12 network + PAC-12 Washington, you may already have fubo Extra ($8/month).  If so, it is only a $3 increment if you swap one for the other (but you lose some channels).

You seem to enjoy Stanford sports, so just do it.   Like some of us, you can save a few bucks if you drop it for the summer.

This is what it says on that link which seems to be dated two days ago:

"Utah takes on Stanford in Women's Basketball. Tune in on Pac-12 Mountain at 7:00pm on February 11, 2022 or get tickets here."

That gives me a little reason for optimism.  I recall this past season four WVB matches were all shown the same evening on PAC-12 networks although they only had one announcer for each match and I don't know if the announcers were on site or not.

As I read the PAC-12 schedule, the game will be on the PAC-12 Mountain feed.  I expect Sling just sends that feed to its customers, whatever is on it.  Sling's schedule is probably not in synch.   You won't be able to record it as the Stanford WBB game, so you'd have to do a timed recording.

RE: WBB: Stanford vs. Utah Friday 7pm - 81alum - 02-11-2022

It looks like no JVG at practice.  Brown in street clothes on bench.  Brink was out practicing early but is not atm.

There are  P12 broadcasters here.

Utah 3 point shooting impressive in practice.  We will see how they do with the Hull hands in their faces.
