RIP Taylor Hawkins -

OK, I don't get shocked by much any more, but reading of Foo Fighters Drummer Taylor Hawkins' death this morning, did.
He seemed to be one of the most talented, fun, good guys in music along with Dave Grohl, and they combined to be the most powerful duo in music, IMO. Dave Grohl has now been drummer in one iconic band when its front man died, and the front man of an iconic band when his drummer died. Dave Grohl has had a phenomenal musical career with copious success, but still can't help but feel empathy for him today. Sudden death usually doesn't happen for someone so young, but usually does with musicians who use drugs. Just hoping that wasn't his demise, but fear it was.
Anyway, drummers have seemed to fade in stature over the years as music has evolved. I'm not aware of any that have played such a large role in their band's sound and song writing these days, and wonder if anyone here can point to some examples if they have any.
I'm still lamenting the death of Neil Peart which resulted in the loss of Rush as a performance trio, and he will always be my favorite. Nobody can ever touch him, IMO.

Haven't loved a Foos song since Monkey Wrench, but this news is awful.

Not much into newer bands today as I was in the last millennium. One such case from that era was Phil Collins with Genesis.

LOL, PV, I get what you are saying, but the Foo fighters are almost 30 years old.
