Looks like the US is going to qualify for the World Cup finals. Up 5-0 on Panama; Pusilic has a hat trick.

US is in unless they lose by 6+ goals on Wednesday against Costa Rica.

I’m in Canada, watching SportsCentre (sic). I LOL’d at the fact that Canada is celebrating clinching their ticket to Qatar by beating Jamaica in sub-zero temperature.
They’ll be in for a rude awakening playing in 110 degree weather in Qatar.

It's going to be very interesting. The stadiums were designed to work in conjunction with a new air conditioning technology that theoretically will keep temperatures at an optimal level and trap the recycled cold air inside the stadium at field level and in the stands. High velocity cold air will strategically be pumped at players on the field and each spectator seat is outfitted with its own air diffuser. They also have some technologically which is supposed to keep the field itself from heating up regardless of the outside temperature. Whether it all works remains to be seen but there is a plan. It won't just be Canadians suffering if it doesn't work.

Many parts of Canada are hot and humid in the summer. Not Florida miserable, but 85 degrees and 85% humidity in the prairies is common. I assume Qatar is dry.

The entire global football calendar has been changed to accommodate a Winter World Cup in Doha, Qatar - Dec 2022
Historical highs in December in Doha range between 70 to 80F while lows range between 55 and 65F. Players and fans should be generally OK as long as there is no weird weather anomaly.

For those who care: our boy Jordan Morris came in as a late-ish sub!
(He did nothing of note, but he played! Go Jordan!)

Supposedly Candlestick Park was equipped with heaters at each individual seat. Unfortunately, they were embedded in 14 inches of concrete.

The Stick was built with heaters. I think once I felt them once early 60s but a big failure

He came in late against Mexico on Thursday also. Considering his back-to-back ACL tears he's doing pretty well to be in the mix for a spot on the World Cup roster.

We will be playing Iran in the group stage of the World Cup, as well as jolly old England.
For the final spot in our group, there will be two playoff games. Scotland will play Ukraine, and the winner will play Wales.
So our group looks as follows:
England
Iran
United States
Wales or Scotland or Ukraine
the world will be watching.

A very winnable group, and finishing second to make the round of 16 should be the minimum acceptable outcome. Among the top teams, England is a team the US can take down, and I love that we get to play Iran.

Avoiding a group with Belgium/Brazil/Argentina or France was helpful.
Another nice thing about Group B is that they get more rest days than those that start later like Group G or Group H.

I think Iran will be more excited to see us than vice versa. Will be a tough game.

It’s hard not to root for Ukraine to make the World Cup.

The early start for Group B cuts both ways. This year the call-up of the players from their club schedules will be just before the World Cup starts -- I heard it could be as short as 1 week before. So the early start means more rest days during competition, but fewer days to get a team ready before competition starts.
