First day heats now complete and Stanford boats placed first in every one.  I haven't done a detailed comparison with competitors by event, but a quick scan suggests Stanford's toughest competition tomorrow will be Brown and Michigan.

Cardinal Women's Rowing back on the water against some top-level competition again at the 2023 event.  First three Stanford boats won their heats:

I wonder what's up with the Stanford bow 5.  It shows the fastest 3v4 time of the day, but is only an exhibition entry?

The Stanford 2V4 scratched in their morning and afternoon races.  The 3V4 exhibition entry might have been the 2V4 racing to get some experience under their legs but not counting for results.  Also, Stanford didn't say they were taking a 3V4 lineup to Sarasota, so this is probably the 2V4 getting a race in.  Might have been a stomach bug from yesterday that didn't feel resolved until late afternoon...might have been something else.  Very strange.

Racing concluded in Sarasota:

1v8 - Stanford first, 3 seconds over Brown
2v8 - Stanford first, 2 seconds over Michigan
3v8 - Stanford first, 5 seconds over Michigan
1v4 - Stanford second, 2 seconds behind Brown and 14 seconds ahead of Ohio State
2v4 - Stanford scratch
3v4 - Stanford Exhibition, but 4 seconds better than first place Rutgers.

Outstanding performances across the board.

Between the San Diego Crew Classic results (two weekends ago) and the Big 10 Invite results (last weekend), I think Stanford is shaping up to be a strong #2 with potential to challenge #1 Texas.  Of note, Texas's first varsity boat features graduate transfer Kelsey McGinley, who rowed her undergrad career at Stanford.
