We've battled pack against Pepperdine to even the match at two sets apiece, but we are currently behind in the tie-breaker, 7-10. C'mon guys! Go Cardinal!

Sadly, we fell 15-12 in the fifth to Pepperdine.

Men's VB was interesting.  None of the top three ranked teams won their respective league championships -- Long Beach State (19-4), Penn State (23-4) and UCLA (21-3), and Penn State was the odd team out.  Overall #1 ranked team Long Beach State retained their #1 seed for the NCAA championships.  They play the winner of UCLA and Pepperdine (16-9); those are the three teams in the upper bracket.

In the lower bracket, Princeton (15-12) had upset Penn State, and they have the #6 seed against #7 North Greenville (25-3), a college I had literally never heard of and their five Puerto Rican starters.  In the Junior Olympics, the Puerto Rican teams routinely win the gold medals at the age 12, 13 and 14 levels, and they have a number of good players who go on to play at the collegiate level.  The winner of the Princeton-North Greenville play-in game plays against #2 overall seed, Ball State (21-3).

Games are from May 1 to May 9 at Pauley Pavilion on the UCLA campus.

Stanford finished 14-14 this year.  If they'd managed to keep Jaylen Jasper, they'd probably have won around 20 and would have beaten Pepperdine, who was the year 5 recipient of Jasper's services -- he transferred from Stanford to Pepperdine...although he had nine errors in the match.

Still, all told, a tremendous year. How many years did it take softball to dig itself out from under?

I think almost immediately, once John Rittman's former player and protege' took over.  They were 24-31 (3-24 in league) in 2018, last year of the Dartmouth flash's career, and improved by 10 games to 33-20 (8-13 in league), 22-4 in COVID/2020, then 33-22 last year, and 31-13, 8-7 in league so far this year.

The 24-31 (3-21 Pac-12) season in 2018 was actually Coach Allister's first season (however, they immediately beat consensus expectations of finishing last place in the Pac by finishing 8th ahead of Utah). From there, she has put up at least #2 regional seeds in every year with a tourney played (and the 2020 season was for sure going to be another good campaign leading to a tourney berth and maybe a possible regional host).

This year, they have a real chance to host a regional, if not achieve their highest #2 regional seed so far (and I think outside of Oklahoma, any regional host is going to prefer an alternative #2 regional seed to us and our pitching staff).

Hawaii won the men's NCAA volleyball championship.  They beat North Greenville 3-0, #2 Ball State in five and beat Long Beach State in the finals, 3-0.

Stanford lost to volleyball in their first match by a 3-1 score.
