RE: Thomas Booker Drafted - newguy - 04-30-2022

he's a tough player.
i think the Texans chose well, as they did when they chose Mills.

RE: Thomas Booker Drafted - Austroturf - 04-30-2022

Great to see Booker selected.  So far, he is the lone Cardinal to be drafted, and the 6th round is over.  If he remains solo, it will be the lowest total since the 2009 draft, when nobody was selected.

I'm sure glad the coach likes where there program is. Clearly the path to the NFL doesn't go through Palo Alto.

We will have at least 3 players drafted next year (but still likely not go to a bowl).

RE: Thomas Booker Drafted - BostonCard - 04-30-2022

Are we assuming that McKee and Yurosek enter the draft?  Add Kyu Blu Kelley, and that’s three.  I guess Fields and Tremayne are also possible.

RE: Thomas Booker Drafted - Langdude - 04-30-2022

Michael Wilson could be drafted if he has a big season. It is also possible one of the OL is drafted if they have a breakout year, as most retain a lot of potential and NFL size bodies.

Lots of ifs, but not a lot of realization thus far.

Stanford has as many as 5 players who have to date demonstrated as 2023 NFL Draft worthy players  IMO:

- CB Kyu Blu Kelly
- WR Brycen Tremayne
- TE Ben Yurosek
- OT Walter Rouse
- WR Elijah Higgins

It's possible others could emerge, though I doubt Michael Wilson is an NFL player. He's solid, but you need to be exceptional at something at his position and I don't see it with Wilson to date.

Elijah Higgins on the list but not Tanner McKee?

Kelly, Yurosek and McKee for sure.

Others (including Fields) are possibilities; so much can change in one season, but only the first three are likely, barring injury.

P.S. Agree on Wilson, but what does Higgins do that is special? he's the type of receiver that NFL teams don't really value.

I didn't think of McKee as being NFL-ready after what would be less than 20 games as a starter assuming he plays them all. But then again, he was an LDS guy and my want to move on given his age even if he could use another year in college to elevate his value.

Higgins put up really impressive numbers until McKee went out last year. He could really carve out a role as a big slot receiver who is too big/strong for nickel backs to cover. It is up to Stanford to showcase him in that role and develop him as a blocker so he can also maybe play some TE.

I'll add Fields and McKee to that list of "potential" draftees, realizing that at most 3 of them will actually be drafted.

That Booker was the ONLY player drafted is illustrative of the state of the program...sigh

Mills was drafted after how many games?

Always good to be on the same page as DC. The logical ones to be drafted are Kelly, Yorusek, and McKee.

So far on the net no Stanford undrafted free agents sign.

Garbers signs with Raiders.

UC Davis has two guys sign.

Doesn't say much about Stanford's NFL talent or their coaching.

Mills was drafted after how many games?

I know it was a rhetorical question, but to your point, Mills started a total of only 11 games at Stanford, and 5 of them were during the abbreviated Covid season which many NFL evaluators discounted given all the opt outs, quarantines and other unusual circumstances that year.

After five games last year McKee had completed two thirds of his passes with 11 touchdowns and no interceptions and was generating real draft buzz amid a weak QB class. If he hadn't tailed off and gotten injured he would have been projected pretty well given his physical attributes, pedigree and safe off-field profile. NFL also teams understand that he was playing behind a weak OL line, had no rushing game to take pressure off, and lost his top wide receivers to injury for most of the season.

RE: Thomas Booker Drafted - BostonCard - 05-01-2022

McKee’s completion (65.4%) percentage last year was pretty similar to Mills’ (66.2%) the year before.  Pass efficiency rating was also pretty similar (138.7 vs. 139.9).

Back in the 70's the 49ers and Raiders signed a good number of local D-1 players to free agent contracts mainly for training camp bodies, and to generate interest from the local fan base to get butts in the seats for preseason games.  Sometimes the free agents stuck and made the final cut.
